I know 'bande annonce' means trailer but what does it literally mean?

In french, "Bande" literally means "film" (as in "film tape" or "roll film").
An "annonce" is simply a "headline" or an "announcement".

BTW: why do you guys call it a "trailer" ?
Isn't a trailer supposed to be a vehicle hauled by a truck or something ?

As for the film. I can't seeing it do as well as Taegukgi internationally. It looks to be a Mainland Chinese release and has no really big names.

Dictionary.com says this:

1. A short filmed advertisement for a movie; a preview.
2. A short, blank strip of film at the end of a reel.

It must be historical.

Trailers originated as promos for films that played after a feature. So you go see a movie and then afterwards they'd play "trailers" (that trailed after the film).

To get back on topic, I think this looks really awesome. I hope this will have some substance as well, because the trailer really just showed action scenes (which looked really good, though).

Yeaaah, back on topic... The trailer was put together a bit weirdly (and badly). The CG didn't look the best, but it looks like it has potential. Not sure what the anglo-chick would be doing in there?

Have to keep an eye for reviews. Does look a lot like Taegukgi. And how's that spear through the eye socket?? :pirate:

At about the 1:30 mark in the trailer there's a caucasian woman. I only saw it quickly but she didn't look Asian.

The official english title for this movie is "On the mountain Tai Hang".

It will be released in HK theaters tomorrow (September 1st).

A bit late, but watched it tonight.

Very patriotic... I'd even dare to say propaganda-like. The story was something I couldn't have bothered less about. But there are a lot battle scenes and they were just wonderfully shot. Lots better than most of the battle sequences in "Taegukgi" as they seemed to chaotic to me. War is chaotic, but the way the scenes were shot was chaotic in "Taegukgi". In "On the Mountain of Tai Hang" you have a better view of what is actually happening.
