Not gritty realism, as I expected it to be, more comic.
Hence the comic book scene transitions of the Director's Cut. Those and a brief animated prologue are the only differences to the TC.

I'm keen for a BD of the Manhunter TC (not the unfinished work print).

I thought the Warrior DC DVD was just lots of deleted scenes, no? If not, it's odd the BD is the TC.

I'd love a Manhunter TC BD too. I'd settle for the workprint, just no pointless DC please. That has woeful quality added scenes, that take any value away from their worth (which is not much to start with).

Has Mann ever answered why that so pivotal scene isn't in his DC? It's unbelievable he actually removed it.

The Warriors BD is the director's cut with the comic book transitions.

Now this is what an action-revenge thriller should be. Balls out violence and a bad mofo performance from Liam Neeson. No flab, no liberal moralising bullshit. The filmmakers set a goal and head directly for it at speed. Charlie Bronson and Bruce Willis roled into one for the millenium. I rented this, but am gonna buy it ASAP.
Cracking aint it :D after District 13 and Taken I am sooo lookig forward to his next film From Paris with Love, the trailer looked insane! cannot wait to see Travolta back in some quality action, hopefully beating the shit out of people like the directors other films

I would give you a link to the trailer, but it was taken offline after it was leaked and the company behind it must have done a good job as it is even taken down off Youtube :D

Just a lesser teaser on now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oPkd7W7 ... re=related

I guess you a kind of idea, they had only been filiming a week or so when this was out, so not much in it. I will keep my eyes peeled for the better trailer :D

What's the sub issue with the UK disc - does it apply to the DVD as well as BD?

Don't know about the DVD but on the BD subs don't appear for the small amount of non-english dialogue..you have to fiddle with your remote

Yes thats it :) once you turn them on, they are for all speaking parts, a bit like an asian dvd would sub the entire film even the english bits (Kill Bill Japanese Extended cut etc..).

Its a pain, some may not be too bothered and some will not care at all, but I saw it 2 times in the cinema and I did not have to mess about with a remote there :D so I want a perfect Blu Ray, I guess I will see what excuse Fox get back to me with :D

Ah. Multi-region all the way :D. I can wait for T2 to load, as it gives me multi-region (plus HD-DVD). I now own more than enough discs of both regions to make Multi-region a must for me.

When my BH200 gets retired I'll be paying the extra for BD MR.

p.s - Sorry.

Pinocchio (1940): 5/5

A timeless classic and one of Disney's best works, even one of the best animations ever full stop.

Agreed Pinocchio is one of Disney's best works. I don't think I could ever give a Disney film 5 out of 5 though.

Death Race (2008): 3/5
Great stunts and action but let down by the last act which was kind of disappointing. I suppose they couldn't top what came before. Makes me want to check out the original.

Iron Man: 3.5/5
I think I preferred this to the Dark Knight. The main star was certainly more charismatic and there were a lot more great one-liners. Admittedly the baddy wasn't as good. Also the amount of CGI action in these films lowers their standing IMHO.

For some reason I noticed 2 dialogue omissions on the DVD, nothing major but still curious omissions. During the 'Give a Little Whistle' song, Jiminy's "Right!" to Pinocchio's utterance of his name isn't there, and also Jiminy should say "Look out, Pinoke!" as Pinocchio falls off the table. Maybe they're restoration gaffes?

JCVD BD 3/5

Ok Van Damme "playing himself" movie is quite interesting. JCVD,down on his luck and embroiled in a child custody battle, enters a post office where he's taken hostage by armed robbers. mostly set in this location, the film has a rather drab colour palette that doesn't show off blu-ray at all. well worth seeing, i liked the opening one take tracking shot and Van Damme shows he's quite a capable actor when using his native tongue.

Grease BD 4/5 Time hasn't dated this cracking musical featuring Travolta & Newton-John,along with Jeff Conaway & Stockard Channing the oldest high school kids ever :) cracking soundtrack and a solid transfer though it doesn't impress as much as Saturday Night Fever.

Circle Of Iron BD 2/5

Attempt to film Bruce Lee's Silent Flute is let down by an uncharismatic lead (Jeff Cooper) too much of David Carradine and poorly staged action sequences.a very poor Blu-Ray transfer, between the 53-58 minute mark a very visible white line runs down the screen!

The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 4/5

There were some cracking thrillers made in the 70's and this was one of them. An underground train is hijacked by ruthless armed robbers led by Robert Shaw,Walter Matthau in his usual laconic style is charged with catching them. the dvd is a really dated transfer and needs an upgrade...this has just been remade by Tony Scott with Denzel Washington & John Travolta in the lead roles.

Eastern Promises BD 2/5

Not one of Cronenberg's better efforts, this bleak and violent tale of eastern european gangsters didn't impress me. Viggo Mortensen is pretty good but Vincent Cassel annoys and Naomi Watts has little to do.[/spoiler]

JCVD looks cracking when I compared it to the dvd :) a big upgrade, not a showcase HD film, but its no showcase film style :D

Loved it myself, 3rd best film of the year so far :D I nearly cried! so it worked for me. Gotta agree with that first shot! mindblowing work on that, its' a fake one shot, but damn its quality work!

Withnail & I: 3/5

Often amusing with some allegedly quotable lines ("I demand to have some booze!" or "We want the finest wines available to humanity!"), but I didn't find the two characters very likeable, also I'm not sure what the "point" of the film was.

What! What! What!

You're not supposed to like them "overall" but there's definitely lots to like too. Didn't you find it hilarious? I found it so funny.

What do you mean, what the point? It's a comedy, a very funny one, with very witty writing indeed. You're so wrong here Grim but fair enough it didn't work for you.

You rented the Anchor Bay DVD I take it? I also take it you watched it in Stereo? Not the awful 5.1.
