Mortal Kombat is superb!
Event Horizon is as total blast! shame it was cut to hell!
Soldier is fun, shame it was cut sooooo much :(
Resident Evil is stunning!
AVP: Alien Vs. Predator is ok I guessi n small doses. also cut to hell aparenty :(

he aint lucky with the studios cutting his films to shit, one day we may see real versions of them cut films :( they just announced AVSP extended cut, but seriously dont expect all the footage back in at all.

Oh really? I knew Event Horizon was cut but not Soldier. Such a shame.

It was absolutly ridiculous that AVP was cut down to PG-13. I actually lost my drive to see it in the theater for that reason.
Paul Anderson is no doubt a skilled sci-fi/action filmmaker, the studios just wont leave him alone.

From what I read Soldier was another 30 minutes longer! to cut that amount is a joke! no wonder it felt a little rushed! hell even the trailer had about 6 scenes not in the film!

It was a gigantic film really and cost $80-100 million for Warner Brothers to make (people say different amounts, but they always lie when films flop and say it cost less), then they gutted it to hell and it flopped, I belev eits WB biggest flop it made about 14 million in america! it never shows up on Big flop lists, but thats just because the people who make them know absolutly shit all about anything.

Event Horizon is infamous for its cuts, I just hope that gets a relase some day too :(

A Vs P well It wouldnt exactly make the film better to have gore in it, gore doesnt make a film :)
I think he can be a great director on occation, but he seems to get shafted by the studios all the time and the net fanatics just go on and on about him being a gimp for hire with no talent, he has more talent than overated wankers who make most Oscar winners. Resident Evil for its sound and visual look makes him an outstanding film maker in my eyes, you may not like the film, but it looks and sound amazing at times.

Oh wow, i'd love to see what was taken out.
It was indeed a fun movie but 30 minutes of added depth would make it even better :)

Likewise :(
romerojpg wrote:A Vs P well It wouldnt exactly make the film better to have gore in it, gore doesnt make a film :)
Oh i know that :) I was just making a general comment that the film should not have been cut down for the kiddies. Alien and Predator, two violent sci-fi franchises being thrown into the mix together for a movie called "Alien Vs. Predator". We certainly can't deny that most fans will be expecting some nice gory mayhem

Wow, I thought the film was quite slow when I saw it. Probably because it was TV broadcast with like 30mins worth of ads. TBH I thought it was brainless fun when Kurt Russell "went space Rambo First Blood Part 1" on Jason Scott Lee and his engineered super-soldiers. The film had alot of wasted potential IMO, if it had been in the hands of a director who was actually capable it could've been like another Blade Runner IMO.
the net fanatics just go on and on about him being a gimp for hire with no talent
And they're right on the money with that view.

Haha, Titanic may've sucked (except in the last 40-mins when the boat sinks - such a fantastic action sequence that is) but no way he even can come close to James Cameron in the Hollywood action cinema arena. Cameron is the Hollywood action master. I'm really looking forward to Battle Angel Alita.
Resident Evil for its sound and visual look makes him an outstanding film maker in my eyes, you may not like the film, but it looks and sound amazing at times.
I admit RE was a stupid fun watch-once movie, nothing more though.

Well James Cameron is a God for me, so he deserves Oscars (not that anyone deserves them as they are crap! and mean nothing)

I mean other overated ditrectors who win every year, or get nominated all the time. I detest the Oscars with a vengence, its totally rigged and blatant lies and only fools care about them in a serious way. Its to advertise films and thats the ONLY reason for crappy Oscars, and for rich dicks to slap each other on the back and give friends Oscars. Did I say I hated them :D

I agree, the Oscars are total crap.

It's all politcally motivated. The greatest filmmakers (MARTIN SCORSESE)are often ignored because their films rub the Academy members the wrong way.

Take this year for insistence, Million Dollar Baby was contrived manipulative tripe. The pro-euthanasia slant was totally lapped by all the Hollywood liberals. It didn't deserve Best Picture or Best Director IMO, no question that the acting was top notch though.

The new Doom trailer is very intriguing, it looks very much like the videogame:

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Still, it WILL suck and Romero will love it regardless. FFS it's from the director of utter bollocks like Cradle 2 the Grave, Jet Li vs. bastardised hiphop pseudo-Shakespeare and Exit Wounds.

Never judge a book by its cover.
Never judge a movie by its trailer.
Never judge a director by his previous movies.

I actually agree that the Doom trailer didn't look half bad. We'll have to wait and see.

(So help me, i enjoyed 'The Rundown' and 'The Scorpion King' :D )

I love The Rundown myself the commentary is wonderfull! Walking Tall is also brillaint film.

The first person perspective, well it could look good in the film, but it could be appauling! time will tell, but at least its different to what we normally see and it is suposed to be a very violent film as well, so at least we may be in for violent dumb fun. Just hope its not too serious, but judging from the Chainsaw part of the trailer it wont be.

Utter bollocks. You can if said director has made shit film, after shit film, after shit film in row, like the Doom director has.

Does anyone say "Let's not judge Uwe Boll on past work, his next film could be the next Citizen Kane."? I didn't think so.

The hero of Doom is played by kiwi actor Karl Urban BTW (probably best known outside as Eomer from LOTR2&3; the Russian assassin from The Bourne Supremacy and he had some supporting role in Chronicles of Riddick), not The Rock.

Really ?

Back in '86, who would have thought that Ringo Lam (who had directed 4 crappy movies in a row) would one day become one of the best directors in HK ?

Back in '98, who would have thought that a director like Peter Jackson would have the balls to direct the "impossible-to-film" Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Back in '90, who would have thought that Wong Jing (who had directed more than a dozen crap films) would then make the masterpiece that is God of Gamblers.

What I'm saying is that even someone like Bartkowiak could have a lot of talent. Maybe he just hasn't found "The Way" yet.
Does anyone say "Let's not judge Uwe Boll on past work, his next film could be the next Citizen Kane."?
Actually that's what I'd like to say about Chapman To. But people would probably put me in an insane asylum for that one. :D

So you're saying Peter Jackson's films prior to LOTR sucked? His early low-budget splatter horror-comedies and that pure popcorn flick Frighteners aside, Heavenly Creatures (1994) is an utter masterpiece.

Never heard of Chapman To. What films of note did he make?

You're right about PJ. I was just trying to say that some directors have hidden talent. When the right project comes, Bartkowiak might make his own masterpiece.
--------------------------
Chapman To's a HK actor. Some people say he's the worst actor in history.

He played "crazy Keung" in Infernal Affairs.
He also played crazy characters in Initial D, Cat and Mouse and lots of other comedies.

http://www.lovehkfilm.com/people/to_chapman.htm

I'm expecting him to turn into a fine character actor anytime soon. :D

You make a good point Tom :)
However isnt that the exception rather than the rule? It can work the other way too - back in '89 after starring in classics like A Better Tomorrow1/2/3 and The Killer who wouldve thought Chow Yun Fat would waste his time with dreck like Bulletproof Monk? ;)

Yep I have to agree, he's so vacant.

Not the worst actor mind you, he's just so average.
