From what I recall it was only really praised on forums. Which does tend to mean something.

DVD Forums tend to be frequented by "mostly" male 20-30 somethings, that means something.

I can see why some would drool over it, as some seem to think Mr Downey Jr is the second coming and cannot do any wrong at all.

I liked it plenty to get the HD DVD for £2.49p :D

I'd not seen it. It didn't look like something I'd rush to see.

Empire are very biased with their reviews, writing them to say what they think people want to hear. More biased than most critics.

I remember EMPIRE justifying giving FORREST GUMP ***** by saying they felt it was a film everyone would want see as opposed to a film that actually deserved full marks.

That's what I mean. They did the same for Stars Wars Episode 1.

p.s - Easily worth 4 out of 5 though.

Not really, you must not read EMPIRE much if you say that. I own every issue, what your on about is someones opinion, nothing more.

Empire gave EPISODE 1 *****?

Talk about credibility flying out the window.

I think I'd stopped buying it by that point.

I thought Total Film took the piss giving ***** to Halloween H20 and singling out LL Cool J as a fine actor. To think I then continued buying the mag for 7 years!

Yeah, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang was overrated. It was an entertaining watch with good performances from Downey Jr. and the highly underrated Val Kilmer, nothing more - highly forgettable film that entirely lacked substance.

I think that Mark Kermode whacked off to it, because it was the big return of Shane Black - writer of Lethal Weapon or something. Personally I remember Black as the nerdy guy from Predator.

I'm a fan of Shane Black's writing. Maybe he's just not the best director of his own material?

I'd add Shutter Island to this thread.Like a few Scorcsese movies the reviews were better than the actual product.

I've watched 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' again since my last post and enjoyed it more.

My expectations were adjusted.
