Exactly, brad's using his own personal opinion of what constitutes as "erotic" to form a de facto standard definition of the term, absolute madness. At the end of the day anything that is designed to arouse sexual desire in the observer is erotic. Yi mentioned Basic Instict was only useful as wank material for him, so obviously the film was erotic on some level to him back in his teen years, it's the same for many people I bet. Basic Instict has clearly been filmed with the intention of "turning on" its audience, so it is ok to describe the film as an Erotic Thriller.

Without having read the last few pages very carefully, it seems to me that Brad is making a lot of sense. He's arguing about opinions, as he should.

The biggest bullshit statement that exists on the internet, created by forum posters who are either too inarticulate or just too lazy to argue their points effectively, or by people whose egos are too big for them to ever admit that they could be wrong. Why can't I agree with Yi when he said ITMFL is sexy (it is, but also about romantic longing) but also find BI sexy? The sex in BI is important to the plot. Sharon Stone's eroticism adds to her darkness and danger.

Porn IS erotic material Brad, by the very definition of the word itself! Just because you may not find something like Debbie Does Dallas in the slightest bit erotic doesn't alter the fact that it is an erotic film. Same with Basic Instinct, I'm of a similar opinion to yourself and don't find it sexy in any way, but i'd never deny that it is an erotic thriller.
