lol, sorry but any trilogy which has an installment you personally rate 2.5/5 can't really be one of the best trilogies ever. And your rating is definitely generous.

Well seeing as this is just a bit of fun, and the original poster stated in their first post that they were basically meaning any series of films that had 3 or more films in it, I think we can include the Alien Quartet... don't you know quadrilogy is actually only a made up word?! :D

But i've no idea how I forgot about the Lord Of The Rings trilogy it probably is the best trilogy of all time in honesty, as it was pretty damn good.

I'm going to adopt the rating each individual film and adding up scores approach:

That it is, but I think the word you're looking for is 'tetralogy'. An Alien Quartet would be a musical group of extraterrestrials ;)

Godfather 1 and 2 are excellent but very slow, Godfather 3 is also very good and only hated because it's comparison to the first two. In it's own right it's very good.

I do but seeing as no one has actually come up with the official alternative, it will have to do. We all know Yanks cannot help but make words up or deliberately remove letters for the sake of it.

EDIT: Tetralogy, maybe Gas has it.

Some of these choices are utterly bizarre, picking films purely because there is 3 of them.

Terminator 3? Robocop 3? WTF! If we're going to pick random films I may as well include:

Goldeneye - 6 out of 10
Tomorrow Never Dies - 7 out of 10
The World is not Enough - 6.5 out of 10

I didn't say it was the best of all time, just 3 in a row I'm familiar with.

A highest average score does make sense though...

Why limit the conversation to 7 posts when we have a good chance to have a real discussion (about trilogies in general)?

That's what I was thinking.

The thread is worthless if we're just going to list every trilogy and every vaguely related trilogy ever created.

Like those who're picking films where there are more than 3 films, fine if there is a thematic trilogy in there but if you're just picking 3 because you dislike the fourth, what's the point?

This thread would get boring quickly if we didn't find a way to expand it as there aren't that many genuine trilogies to begin with.

A Better Tomorrow trilogy

ABT1 = Terrifically scripted and acted first film with mediocre action.
ABT2 = The script is all over the place, with a lot of dumb shit like Dean Shek going catatonic. But the action is fucking awesome, John Woo mastered his craft with this film.

ABT3 = Long, boring and totally uninteresting. I ignore this film. Anita Mui was hot in it, I suppose.

Bullet in the Head = For me, THIS is the true ABT3. A beautifully written tale about three young friends losing their innocence and becoming men. Tony Leung Chiu-Wai is fantastic in this. The action was fucking sweet too.

Infernal Affairs
The first one is an utterly fantastic thriller.

The second one is an interesting crime family drama, Francis Ng is terrific in this one.

I've yet to see the third.

Wong Kar Wai - Hong Kong 1960's trilogy
Days of Being Wild - I didn't see what the big deal about this one was, his later films are loads better. I found Leslie Cheung's character to be highly unlikeable.

In the Mood for Love - Utterly fantastic. The cinematography, soundtrack, acting, script - the works. The slow-motion scenes set to the Nat King Cole tracks are engrained into my head for all time.

2046 - I loved this film. Yes, it's flawed, but I wouldn't have seen the others if I hadn't had liked this one so much. The narrative was utterly compelling and Tony Leung was highly impressive, as usual.

If we are limiting this thread to just the best trilogy ever and not wanting people to bring other trilogies, rate them in a hope of stimulating discussion, then the original poster should get a poll going, allow people to vote, then close and lock the thread once most people have voted.

LotR AND Star Wars get my vote.

I was going to rate other trilogies in this post for more comparison on the relative quality of them compared to others, but as none of them were going to be the best trilogy ever I won't bother.
