Best movie trilogy?

Post by saltysam »

What do you think has been the best trilogy of films? you can count sries as a triogy even if there's been more than 3 made...for consistency my vote goes to the Dollar movies,a superb series of films where the imo the quality is retained and even improved throughout :)

Cause they has such an effect on me when I was younger (and I still love them now)

The Original Star Wars Trilogy

Until they made Crystal Skul,l which didn't feel like an Indy film at all

Indiana Jones Trilogy

I watched the first of these last night, and I still really like them, despite the shaky-cam

Bourne trilogy

And then there are other ones that are definitely up there:

BTTF
Harry Potter
Spiderman
Shrek (part 3 not so much I guess, but the other 2 were hysterical)

Police Story
Infernal Affairs

I'm sure I'm missing other ones I think are great, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Didn't think Back To The Future sequels were all that good. The Romero zombie movies are very strong throughout.

The BTTF sequels cleverly built upon ideas from the orignal I felt. They're hardly perfect but have a lot to recommend to them.

The Dollars Trilogy is good, but OUATITW is even better.

The first Infernal Affairs was good (not brilliant), but the prequel/sequel combo disappointed.

First two Shaolin Temple films were very good, but the third one let the side down a little.

The two Cannonball Run movies wer shit, natch.

Only watched the first Blade, which wasn't bad.

The original Star Wars trilogy was fun and no more, for the new trilogy I made it part of the way thru Episode 1 and that was it.

First and third Indiana Jones films were excellent, second was OK. Crystal Skull a disappointment that should've stayed in development.

First Bourne was the best, sequels were less well directed and became repetitive.

Never seen any Harry Potter movie and don't intend to either.

Enjpyed the first Spider-Man, sequel wasn't bad. Never bothered with the third.

Shrek pts 1 and 2 had their moments (and puss 'n' boots was cool), never bothered with part 3.

Police Story is classic, the sequels less good, but good nonetheless.

I would add the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard Trilogies.

LW 1 + 2 are excellent, 3 is good fun, 4 is uneven and lazy, but has Jet Li.

DH 1 is arguably the best action movie ever made, 2-4 are terrific sequels.

Oops forgot about the LW & DH movies...Agreed LW 1 & 2 are great,3 and 4 are disappointing though. DH 1-3 are all excellent..the latest one is better than expected but nowhere near the first 3 quality wise imo.

Well if we are totally forgetting parts 4 5 6 etc.. and making up triologys.

Alien trilogy wins hands down.

As does Terminator Trilogy.

The original 3 Alien films are awesome (yes, I love Alien 3).

The first two Terminator films are some of the best cinema ever made, but the 3rd falls short. Its fun, but nothing like the quality of the first two (apart from the ending!).

Forgot about the 3 Colors Trilogy. I haven't seen "Red" yet.
All 3 OUATIC are worth owning, I recall 1 being the strongest.
IMO SW Ep 3 was the best of the "new" trilogy (if thats possible).
All 3 LOTR films are marvellous.
LW 1-3 are all good fun :D
T1 and 2 are brilliant action films, the third falls short.

The trouble with trilogies is it's very hard to be consistent across two movies, let alone three. For me, it would have to be a trilogy that is constantly good, not just a trilogy I happened to like 1 or 2 of the movies. I'd put Bourne in this category, all three are consistently excellent.

Aliens is a Quadrilogy, you cannot include it in a trilogy rundown when it's 4 films.

p.s - Red is the best one Grim, although you definitely need to see them in order to get the most out of Red. Blue and Red are fantastic but I didn't think much of White, the comedy didn't work for me. I ended up selling White.

I've seen Blue and White and both are very good. Actually I saw White a long time before Blue (I was about 13).

It's much better than given credit for. I'm going out on a limb by saying that I prefer the tighter studio cut over the flabby, somewhat self-indulgent extended cut.

The problem with Robocop 3 is that they aimed it at a younger audience. In no way does it come close to the original but it's not that bad for what it is (at least from memory). How I'd feel about it now I don't know. Robocop 2 falls somewhere in between.

RoboCop 2's fine, I like it, but number 3 is a pile of shit.
