Hardware - Great news!!

Hey this was posted on DVDTimes, On Richard Stanleys Blog, he has mentioned the following

MGM and Optimum, 'HARDWARE's UK DVD distributor are proud to announce a major theatrical re-release of the original film and are striking several hundred new 35mm Dolby prints that will soon be finding their way into a cinema near you ! The second coming of Mark 13 and a new begining for this strange and terrible saga! What prompted MGM to afford my humble work official classic status and such Rolls Royce treatment at the eleventh hour is ultimately a mystery even to me but the reappearance of the beast in all its unexpurgated, uncensored glory in the ..first run multiplexes is obviously intended as a publicity platform for a saturation DVD release come fall and a new pressing of the long deleted soundtrack album. The beast lives !!! Indeed it never died. Wounded on first appearance it has slept these 17 long years and now its clawing its way out of the shallow grave where it lay hidden through the long night, ready to take on a new generation softened by mainstream product, blissfully unprepared for the hunter/killer unit's sheer savagery and good old fashioned political incorrectness.

Plans for the American release remain murky although the existence of the new prints beg the question. Several players are currently duking it out over the US DVD rights and may the best man win. Personally I hope Norm Hill's Subversive label gets the nod after their sterling work on the 'Dust Devil' boxkit. Granted 'SECRET GLORY' may have been out of synch in its latter reels ( a transfer problem relating to the slightly different running times of sound and the picture, a frequent hazards of PAL/NTSC transfers.) Despite lower resolution the US edition was a better transfer by far than the fuzzy, slightly pink hued Optimum 'DustDevil' and boy, did it ever have extras. I'd certainly like to see another one of those rinky-dink comic book primers, preferably with the Mark 13 drone soldier happily chowing down on George W. and his advisors en lieau of the Hitch versus Hitler gag in the Dust Devil freebie.

For great justice. Hopefully we'll get a top-notch remastered job.

Maybe this renewed interest in Stanley will get him some worthwhile director jobs? Last I heard he was making a short film for the indy horror equivalent of the Masters of Horror series.

Since Hallow'een 2006 I have been working slavishly ( literally round the clock, more often than not ) on preparing the screenplay and storyboards for the second installment, currently referred to for the sake of expediency only by it's working title: ` 'HARDWARE II GROUND 0 '

As intimated in the previous blog, it's the one I think I'll be remembered for although there are still a million miles of radioactive rough road between here and the chance to put the behemoth before camera. And behemoth it be, I promise! A serious slice of future history, detailing the break-up and growing balkanization of the former United States and the scramble to gain possession of its disintegrating nuclear stockpile.
The mass production and tactical deployment of the Mark 13 Stormtrooper and Jill, Shades and the Nomad's continuing adventures in the 21st century are detailed with more ferocity, more sexuality, more drugs, more gags, louder music and worse manners than before. More humanity perhaps as well but then the characters are older now, more desperate and playing for higher stakes. Keep watching this space for further updates and fresh spoilers although don't hold it against me if I gently misdirect or even lie about salient plot features. I like to keep it fresh, you see. I like to keep it fresh....

Why even look then? you dont know much about cult, old films like this, so its no suprise you never heard of it

let alone ever watched it.

Hey I cannot wait, Dustdevils amazing dvd set (probibloy the best of last year! easy! from any region in the world) was stunning so please do the same for Hardware. I cannot even remember seeing Hardware at all, maybe saw it as a young un, but that was a long time ago. So nice to see the full uncut films on its way.

Cinema? not a chance in hell, it wont ever make cash there and if it is shown it will be on a few screen in London and festivals at amost.

Still, great news and Stanleys such an amazing charecter I cannot wait to see how this pans out

I read recently after he was sacked from the Island of Dr Merou (whatever its called) as Director and burned everything made so far, he sneaked back onto the set as an extra

and is on screen in the film

Oh yes, lovely set that is. I listened to all the commentaries, Stanley is crazy. Very intelligent dude, but still crazy.

I do wonder if the DustDevil dvd set even sold well as its still on sale the Limited Edition, its a shame as really it deserves to sell a lot better than most the crap that gets released. The film isnt even that great, but the rest of the dvds are very well done, and frankly interesting, which most dvds never are.

You could tell that DustDevil DVD set was a complete labour of love for Richard Stanley, I'm glad his works are getting revisted. Hopefully Hardware will be a good special edition, I'm pretty sure it will not be as good as Dustdevil, but hopefully it has it own great special features. I do like the interviews by Stanley in Dustdevil. Yeah I have seen Dustdevil 5 disk special being sold for $19.95 on http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/dust- ... 10092.html

So if you don't have it, pick it up

Personally I'm looking forward to hearing the sweet sounding rock/metal/industrial soundtrack of Hardware. Hopefully they can secure full rights to all the tracks in the film for the DVD release.

Yeah I dont expect that much from MGM and Optimum to be honest of they are releasing the dvd, not a 2 dvd version even if they are handling release rights.

I meant not replacing any of the songs used in the actual film. But an OST CD would be nice as well.

hey,

you're very spot on, the Dust Devil set is probably the strongest when it comes to Stanley's commentaries and interviews. Such a maniac and interesting talker to boot.

Hardware I remember as being allright, decent post nuclear war visuals and at least one heavier gore scene. Liked that it was a dirty, grimey flick overall, seemed to correspond well to the robot design.

I just remember Stanley saying its never been released uncut, but people do seem to aim most comments towards america even if it has been uncut in say the UK

It's out on Blu-ray as well. I saw this back when it first came out and it bored me to tears, but I was just a kid back then.
