It'll be interesting to see how the subtitles turn out on Momentum's discs :) Possibly they could re-do CDWM's subs then.

I saw the DVDs in HMV for £9.99.

Virtually the same packaging as the DD releases.

Why to the extras HAVE to be interlaced? Is that because Celestial wouldn't give them the original materials or something?

If you're in contact with them you NEED to push them about Cantonese Mono for My Young Auntie - that's a priority!!

I don't understand why interlaced extras is such a big deal when they don't even do the films justice. More often then not, when the extras ARE progressive, the treatment of the film sucks!

I'm not sure that's the right question.

When when PAL countries get the materials from NTSC land, they need to flag them properly so that displays without de-interlacers won't show the lines, and so that the NTSC>PAL conversion maintains the frames without ghosting. It should be roughly done as: 60i with the pulldown removed to re-create the frames and then into 25p, not 60i to 50i where there's no indication of frames and from there...

I think it's because the studio is too lazy or incompetent.

50i is for stuff shot 50i. 25p is for stuff shot (or intended to be like) on film.

I'm not in contact with them anymore.

I recommend you phone them with any concerns you have. It's what I did.

Granted.

I just treat everything equally and mention everything. However, I do have the film inserted first.

No offence to Chen but given the problems we have even getting a decent release of the movie, extras are way down my list. To the point I'd not risk diluting the water by even mentioning it.

It does remind me of the time, someone got in a strop (not on this forum) that those Superbit DVDs didn't have Superbit extras on the Deluxe versions. You what!

Some of you may not care, but I ask that you not make a sarcastic at me when I say about it. HK film releases are usually handled by amateurs and in this digital generation, there's no place for such crap standards anymore. You may not have the best sources available to you, but that is not to say you drop standards when processing them.

If you saw how '5 Fingers Of Death' trailer (on DD's King Boxer' disc) looks on my TV (unwatchable - it goes backwards and forwards), I'm sure some posts dismissing me would be retracted.
Understood but there comes a time when you know to pick and choose your battles. HK cinema never had standards to begin with as you know quite well so why would you expect these releases in general to be to your liking? In all seriousness, I wouldn't let an interlaced interview or shitty trailer ruin my experience in potentially enjoying the release itself(provided the picture is good and subs adequate) .

I think I should rate films and extras separately from now on. I'll say "The presentation of the film's fine, but I found a few niggles on the extras." Seems better IMO.

To sum it up ;): "Present an interview interlaced if it's shot that way (unless you deliberately want it de-interlaced to create a film-look - with the progressive flag), but don't present something that's meant to be progressive, interlaced." I believe that statement should do it's rounds when touching upon the subject.

Granted, it probably wouldn't stop me either, but I will still complain, and that's what some people misunderstand. If there's a feature that has more substantial value than a trailer, but may not be presented standalone (Eastern Condors live-show), then people are going to want it in it's best state. I complain because I'm simply quite right to. Ivan Drago thinks I'm complaining at the thought of a simple extra or two compared to a film and being nitpicky, but my intention is not like at all - I can't express how I mean really. Why should I not say it? What harm does it do? It's a perfectly valid complaint and I can't emphasise it enough. Blowing my top a little, I should run my own company and release these with the proper handling that they're currently not receiving.

When I want to pause to see something, half of the feature has ghosting. When you don't have a de-interlacer, you see lines that become an eyesore. People think "as long as you can see it, what difference does it make? It seems such a minor little thing, who cares?", but don't realise the consequences that can happen as a result of sub-standard handling.

I probably would have got 'Heroes Two' because it was improved on certain areas, but I was still disappointed. Even more annoyed a company wouldn't provide valid contact details for me to report. We know about that, of course. I regret not being in contact with the technical people long before the release (Linn was over-seeing things, but I hadn't considered that he may not have been a videophile).

My complaint about the 'Challenge Of The Masters' export trailer was one of the stronger offenders that any viewer would take note of. I can get past that the source is VHS and I highly appreciate the inclusion (a film source would have been better, but may not have been available), but it's FAR too saturated to the point I can't see half of what's going on. MB should have decreased it to a viewable level. They seem to do little to the extras, other than translate them - they need more attention than that.

In short, there's areas I can forgive when it comes to sources. However, I cannot forgive slacking when it comes to authoring a disc and mastering the materials from there. With too many people that are forgiving and ignorant of such flaws, we're more susceptible to sub-standard presentations. It's time people read more reviews and not just base their verdict on a list of specifications that seem good, but are actually lacking in the quality handling.

My liking is the basic standard for a company doing these (and I'm not being pompous) ;).

With all due respect , you are the only one that voices these opinions in the same manner each time to various forums where most of the people don't give a shit. Granted, this one and ADG are more educated and appreciative of better releases but thats not really the point I am making. In other words, your message is fallen on deaf ears and to people that cannot change how a release is put out. I highly doubt if all of the kf fans on every message board banded together to demand to the distros that they put out a release based on your criteria would they even entertain of making any changes. You gotta be realistic. You definitely are within your right to voice your opinion but I cannot see why you would bother to continually bring up things that people find little to do with. You should start your own blog/ website to air your grievances on how/why cinema fails you because message boards just don't seem enough. Like I said you have to pick and choose your battles and trying to prove your point to a majority and industry that doesn't give a care is practically a waste of time, don't you think?

I think if we're trying to spell it out to companies how to do the films justice, we shouldn't blindside them with endless rhetoric on how the extras should be handled. After the 5th paragraph, it just gets boring and I expect they switch off completely

Momentum told someone that they postponed the releases due to sales.
