CYBORG GIRL (Japan, 2008)
Could have been great, but ended up being only good, at least the first half of the movie has some of the most hilarious and charming comedy I've ever seen. As long as you've dug the humor in "My sassy Girl", this movie will hit home with a vengeance. "Cyborg Girl" does indeed play homage to a few famous moments in the "Terminator"-series, but in the end it's pure romantic comedy/drama with an SF-theme. I really enjoyed it, despite it's length and a more sappy second half. Mind that this is still a Kwak Jae-Young movie, so if you've watched "My sassy Girl", "The Classic" and "Windstruck" you'll know that he has an affinity for pretty ridiculous and over-dramatic twists which don't always work the way they're supposed to, but I guess this is the kind of movie that'll work better the second time around, when you already know what to expect, anyway. Also the ending comes with no less than five epilogues, thankfully everyone of them is a little bit better than the one before, including a pretty cool time-slip paradoxon (and no, this is not a spoiler; actually you're able to smell it from a mile away, and when it's there, it'll still be a bit larger and dodgier than expected).

Special effects are all great, mostly on par with up-to-date Hollywood productions, and there are a couple of really impressive disaster-scenes as well, coming across as even more intense, personal and convincing than those "Sinking of Japan" had to offer. Last but not least I guess I don't have to mention that Haruka Ayase is simply adorable, aiming for the definitely best and cutest Jun Ji-Hyun-performance Jun Ji-Hyun never did. If you've got the chance to catch this on a big screen, do yourself a favor and reserve a ticket. Though slightly flawed it still looks great, has an abundant share of simply perfect cinematic moments, and first and foremost it managed to keep up my attention even during slower parts.
Unfortunately for you I don't believe in ratings, but if you insist, here's an appropriate thumb: Image

What the hell happened to your hand? :D

I do feel a bit of temptation to buy the HK dvd. But, thankfully, I'm broke :D

Haruka Ayase really seems to be doing it big right now. This, Ichi, Oppai volleyball (I can't even write that title without a bloody big grin on my face)...

There's seems to be two versions of this film. "International Version R2J" with a running time of 104 min, will be released next year. The original R2J ran 120 min, I believe. These are just cdjapan product info, but IMDb backs this up. And why else release a dvd titled "International Version"?
