on the HKL one of the Chinese guys then says in English, "How come your English is so, so so fluent"
Your HKL DVD must be really f***ed-up then. :D
I'm listening to it right now: he's saying it in chinese.

Are you sure you haven't sampled the english dub by mistake ?
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Maybe when I just checked it, I had it on the English dub, but I'm sure the English voices were still different - I'll check.

Ahh, yes thank God for that! When I was checking the HKL it was on English dub by default, and the English voices were different. Okay sorry about that :D

In a perfect world, you'd get:

-OUATIC 1 IVL
-OUATIC 2 IVL
-OUATIC 3 IVL

:D

My box set arrived the other week and oh man OUATIC is gorgeous to look at. I compared each film taking some time and OUATIC HKL is really showing it's age, it's a mess by today's standards.

OUATIC 2 HKL and 3 HKL hold their own much better. I saw no problems with either, OUATIC3 didn't look remotely stretched to me (in a real world test more important than screen captures). However neither can compete with the gorgeous Fortune Star Remastered prints. OUATIC2 didn't look washed out to me, it just looks lovely.

I prefer the audio too. The 5.1 on the HKL DVDs continues to piss me off it's not 5.1 and it's not 1.0/2.0. It's somewhere in between and doesn't really work.

On the IVL DVDs you have a lovely choice of DD2.0 which to me is bland but nice to have, DTS or DD5.1. On the whole on each film I like the DTS best but in some cases it sounds to harsh and the loud bangs sound out of place. If I had to pick one I'd choose the DD5.1. The 5.1 here is proper 5.1 (considering it's source).

I'm definitely still keeping my HKL DVDs for the extras but it's the IVL DVDs I'll be watching for the films.

Very good. From my experiance IVL DVDs using FS HD prints have very good subs.

The only downer being that they also subtitle the English dialogue.

Yeah but there is very little of it so it's not a big deal.

Yeah totally not a big deal. I remember on they subtitled CYF's "rice is people" monologue in ABT2. :D
