Nice statement, but I would remove "Superman" from that list. To me it was the worst film I had watched at the theatre that year. (You were speaking of "Superman Returns", right?)

No Superman: The Movie. I can add Superman 2 to that list too.

Now you mention it yes I would add Superman Returns too, not because it's great but because it's better than both Spider-man and Spider-man 2. I quit like it but it's not a patch on Superman or Superman 2.

Spiderman 2 for me is the best Superhero film to date. I grew up reading the spidey comics and the whole scret wars that led into venom, and when I think of the classic pre-venom spiderman I feel that Sam Saimi just so accurately captured the tone and spirit of those comics on screen with Spiderman 2. It's not perfect, but I feel there will always be inherent flaws when transferring from comic to screen.

Superman 2 I enjoyed as a kid, but when I revisited it with the Superman set I thought it was a wildly uneven film, the main problem is all the stupid "action" sequences Lester added just for the sake of having big action setpieces. What's even more insulting to the comics is that Lester was clearly uninterested in the Kryptonian powers, and so decided to add his own super powers to the characters, resulting some sort of weird telekinetic type abilities. Like the Kryptonians weren't over-powered to begin with.

If the Salkinds hadn't turned into stereotypical shithead producers and Doner had stayed with the project, Superman 2 would have been so much better it's almost tragic.

Superman 3 = The full Richard Lester Superman experience. Horrid film, worst of the series as you can at least laugh at Superman 4 - a lot!

I still think the Superman 2 action is lots of fun. It's been ages since I sat through both though. I don't consider Superman 3 or 4 part of the series, both are just so poor.

Superman IV was fine on paper - the novelisation was especially good. Unfortunatly, it was made by Cannon, who cut the allocated budget by 50% and then cut the finished film by 30min. Probably the only Hollywood film where the UN Building is played by a railway station in Milton Keynes

The original cut would have been maybe a little better, but still a laughably awful film - I mean Clive Mantle playing a super-retard, I ask you! :D

I heard about that :D

I prefer Superman 4 to Superman 3, that's really poor.

As Hung's post has been lost, I'll repost it.

Mei Ah's Red Cliff: Part 1 has watermarks every 15-30 minutes:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.ph ... how=review

This looks to be a common practise for Mei Ah with their BDs. Their Mad Detective is the same :(.

Which means, as far as Red Cliff goes:

1. HK BD - Fucked Up (at least Part 1)
2. International Cinema release - Fucked Up (heavily censored)

In other words, no way to see it properly :(.

How about the DVD versions of "Red Cliff" and "Mad Detective"?

It's a good question. I've been wondering if it's just a BD practise or DVD too.

Didnt the first Chinese DVD of Hero (DC) have a silly watermark/logo popping up?

Ironically I imagine bootlegging is precisely why it's there. Which makes no sense when bootlegs aren't equal and very often come from different sources.

Yep. The quality was piss poor too.

I owned it for awhile. It came out about a year before the HK DC.

Yeah I still own the mainland watermarked DC of Hero. Yeah, the watermark is annoying, but oh well... at that time it was the only way to see the movie uncut, and it wa spretty cheap.

But yeah, this kinda bullshit does make people go for bootlegs instead. Why pay for a disc that has something so incredibly annoying and intrusive and unneccesary!?

I just wish the industry would move away from all the different versions for different regions. When I want to see a Korean or HK movie, I want to see the uncut/director's cut, and not some 'international' version. 9/10 times the 'international' cut isnt as good as the version how it's meant to be, so I dont even 'get' why they bother changing it in the first place. makes no sense whatsoever.

I imagine they do this for foreign language films due to most of the public not have the stomach for 4 Hour long subtitled films.

I'm just saying why they likely do it.

It's such a shame they stuffed up Part 1 though. I'll either have to get the DVD of Part 1 or make do with a watermark .

Thanks Mark. I'll check it out when it's released near me. Hopefully they've left the best footage from both cuts in.

Oh yeah, bollocks. EI bloody V . Still it won't effect the cinema run, just DVD/BD. It's an odd film for them to pick up.

It does, the cinema version is just under 150 minutes long, only 1 film is coming out in the cinema next month, the edited version.

So the UK may well never see the actual 2 films.
