You can throw the dictionary at me but I still maintain I would never in conversation refer to any man as being attractive. I've heard straight men refer to other men as handsome (good facial features, etc) but never attractive. Do women find men attractive? Yes, of course. But I don't. I recognise that other people would, however. If someone asks me: "Is George Clooney attractive?" I would say "To some". If I say he's attractive then the implication is that I'm attracted to him. Same as if I said "Kelly Brook is attractive" You would therefore assume I was attracted to Kelly Brook. And you'd be right. The words may well be connected in dictionary terms but they don't fully convey the useage I'm talking about. Handsome is non-sexual in contest. But attractive is used primarily as a (mild) sexual adjective. Semantics? Perhaps. Nothing to do with homophobia as I neither hate homosexuals nor am I afraid of them. But if you still think I'm wrong go up to one of your straight male friends and say "Brad Pitt is attractive" and see what they say? I doubt they'll all shout "hear hear!" and "doesn't Jude Law have a nicely waxed chest?"

You what? There's no implication in the slightest. If I say he's attractive then the implication is that I'm attracted to him.
You're the first person I've ever known to add a sexual connotation to the word. It must be a Scottish thingBut attractive is used primarily as a (mild) sexual adjective.
They'd react exactly the same way if I said Brad Pitt was handsome. That's their problem not mine. I wouldn't be adding any sexual reference to it, they may do but again that's their problem. But if you still think I'm wrong go up to one of your straight male friends and say "Brad Pitt is attractive" and see what they say?
Like I said, saying "I'm attracted to Brad Pitt" is quite different.
It's all about the words used, granted some ignorant people who don't properly understand the language may read different things into it but I'm not going to alter my language for people who cannot understand these things. I'm not saying this is you Mark.
Example: When people say "like" not meaning like at all. "It's like so cool" doesn't mean "it's so cool" but something similar/like it.
Exactly, well said.Shingster wrote:Aye of course it does, any 5yr old (or normal BnB forum member for that matter) knows that. Unfortunately raging homophobes will always struggle to use the word attractive to describe a member of the same sex.
LOL that's amazingShingster wrote:Just for Mark:

Lol... maybe it is? Because I swear I've NEVER in my life heard a straight male refer to another man as attractive. That's why I laughed when you did it. Maybe this is the norm in England. If so... consider me learned.bradavon wrote:You're the first person I've ever known to add a sexual connotation to the word. It must be a Scottish thing.

In Scotland, sheepfucking and hitting your own kids over the head with a big boot are considered 'tradition'. Doesnt mean it's the same everywhere else, Mark.Markgway wrote:In Scotland that's the same thing.bradavon wrote:But then we're talking about finding someone attractive not being attracted to them.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Brad suggested it.luckystars wrote:To be fair, that's a poor excuse for anything. I don't speak for the whole of England, why that would be racist.
I can only take you guys at your word when you say in England it's OK to say a man is attractive and it doesn't mean you fancy him. All I'm saying is that up here that's not the done thing. If you doubt me ask Tigercage or any of the other Jocks. You limeys sort yourselves out.

Frankly I wouldn't give a fuck if the part of England I lived in it meant you fancy someone. It wouldn't stop me saying it.
If someone wants to think I'm gay that's their problem. I know what my sexuality is and that's really all that matters. If people are going to read way too much into things it's pretty sad really.
Guys I work with had a dig at me for liking Moulin Rouge and seeing the recent Dutchess movie (both excellent). Apparently it's not macho to like such films, bollocks comes to mind.
I wasn't in the slightest bit offended or felt uncomfortable some gay guy touching my chest in that gay bar I mentioned previously. He must've liked me even a little to do it in the first place
.
It's like when someone says "I don't mind homosexuals as long as they don't hit on me", as if all gay men fancy every man they ever meet. The whole concept is completely illogical. Do straight men fancy every women they meet? So why would gay men?

Why would you be offended, you were in a gay club and to be fair, the guy probably only wanted to get past you. Additionally even if some guy touched your chest provocatively, the chances are it was only playful flirting at most.bradavon wrote: I wasn't in the slightest bit offended or felt uncomfortable some gay guy touching my chest in that gay bar I mentioned previously. Agreed, completely illogical however no more illogical than you're assumption that the guy must have liked you 'even a little bit' cos he touched your chest.
Nice to see you out and about though Bradley, i had you pinned for a proper social recluse.
I can appreciate a handsome looking man but I agree 'attractive' is not a word that I would normally use to describe such person. That being said I tend not to analyze any of the stuff I post or say too much!Markgway wrote:
