Hey, your right!
I didnt even bother checking it out because of their latest crap designs, plus the fact that it will be a cut release anyway, but this cover is actually pretty good...
I'll be looking out of my window for the rest of the night, checking for any flying pigs...
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Yep but it does have deleted scenes.
All we've ever heard are rumours about a 4 hour cut, NOTHING official.
My HK 3 Disc Deluxe Edition arrived a few days ago (the cover says Complete Edition but I'm not calling it that).
The packaging is a standard amaray case (1 disc thickness) but the plastic insert holds 2 not the usual 1 disc. I've only sampled disc 1 and the extras disc 3.
The PQ is really good with the full-rate DTS (I guess it's full-rate) being a marked improvement over the DD5.1, the subtitled commentary is a nice addition. The 3rd extras disc is decent too. I checked out the deleted scenes which amount to FIVE scenes at 9:16 in total so nowhere near the missing 87 minutes.
Some of them are pretty good with adding extra detail to the story but let's face it they're "deleted scenes". Donnie Yen specifically says on one of the interviews Seven Swords is 2.5 hours long. I've not watched all the extras so something of a longer cut maybe mentioned but somehow I suspect it won't be.
I'm now really not sure the mythical 4 hour cut will ever come. Is it anything more than a urban myth?
For now the HK 3 Disc Deluxe Edition is the Definitive DVD!

AFAIK the special effects on the remaining footage of the 4-hour cut were never completed. Tsui would have to go back to WETA and ask them to finish the film before thinking about releasing it.
Now, IF Seven Swords works very well in the video market, the studios might consider giving Tsui the necessary budget to complete the movie (that would be unheard of but not impossible).
And IF Tsui decides to make Seven Swords 2, he might have a chance to complete the first one.
Not before 2008 or later, though.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
I really don't know what all the hype is about. The film isn't that much of a good film that it deserves 8 pages of questions about which version to get. Everytime there is a new post in this thread I only open it to see if somebody has found any news on the director's cut. I'd get this to see it it makes the film any better.
"...On mention of this, Tsui Hark expresses great regret. He had wanted to produce the extended 4hrs cut on DVD. However, he discovered that the additional material was not dubbed, and lacked music, sound effects, etc. If he were to release the extended cut, it would require much resources, gathering everyone back to work on post-production. In the end, it was shelved..."

Couldn't agree more, it's a very average film. Why bother watching a cut-price Seven Samurai remake when the original is so good?

Why are you replying to a post from 2+ years ago?
What do you care what people reply to!?
