From Dusk Till Dawn blu-ray 3/5

First time i've seen this in years, not as good as i remembered but it caters to my exploitation tastes in the main. Clooney is excellent in this (was it his first starring role?) and Tarantino is definitely a shit actor! Tom Savini Vs Fred Williamson,Danny Trejo,Harvey Keitel etc make for a great cast list.the blu-ray is a solid upgrade on the dvd but is a little underwhelming,probably because of the source material.some of the effects look rather dated.

I loved Sylvain Chomet's segment about the mimes, he should do a feature length film (which isn't animated). The Maggie Gyllenhaal one and the vampire one were favourites of mine too. A couple seemed pointless, such as the Walter Salles one and the Alfonso Cuaron one. By the end of the film I was crying, which is something I don't often do. I'm not sure if I'll bother with its sequel about New York, as I'm not a fan of that city unlike Paris.

I watched this on Sky(HD) the other night there and thought it was fantastic throughout

Wanted Blu-ray 3/5

Decent actioner features some excellent action sequences but is let down a little by an uncharismatic lead in James Mcavoy.Anjelina Jolie is hot as ever and is great in this,we even get a quick arse shot

not a film you'll think deeply about but well worth seeing,unusually it's an 18 as well.

Death Proof blu-ray 3/5

Lesser Tarantino film is still far superior than most and actually improves on a 2nd viewing.The blu-ray offers a nice TrueHD soundtrack and a solid transfer but i recall the dvd looking excellent as well,whether it's worth the upgrade is debatable really.

Back then I wasn't so much of a pervert yet, so I didn't notice the Schoolgirls.

Planet Terror blu-ray 3/5

Very daft but also very enjoyable effort,probably 15 minutes too long as it does get wearing towards the end. i watched the "damaged" version,had a quick gander at the scratch free one and while pristine it was strangely unappealing.

The Forbidden Kingdom **

Fans waited a long time for Jackie and Jet to team up. Shame the result was such a disappointment. Not a horrible movie. Just very very mediocre. An American's idea of how a Chinese movie should be. Surprisingly it was actually quite dull most of the time... only coming to life towards the end. I'm glad my expectations were low when I went into this.

The Brave One ***

Gritty vigilante drama starring Jodie Foster. Yes, you read that correctly. Tries to set itself aside from the pack by delving into the morality of vigilantism and effects of being a victim... so don't expect Charlie Bronson type fun. Doesn't exactly succeed but is more than watchable.

The Invasion **

Pointless third remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers only goes to prove that the 1956 original is still best. Again, not a bad movie, just incredibly mediocre. Adds nothing worthwhile to the story and the screenplay seems a little ham-fisted in its exposition. A pot-boiler nothing more. Is it me or does Nicole Kidman look like she's had one collagen injection too many?

The Dark Knight blu-ray 4/5

Excellent film but even on 2nd viewing still not as great as has been made out by a lot of people. Nolan still can't direct hand to hand combat sequences and there are some logic lapses The Joker is the world's most dangerous criminal yet they have one cop guarding him in a cell and he isn't even handcuffed? it's also far-fetched how easily he gets to Dent just after his arrest & also at the hospital Bale's voice as Batman is annoying and the sonar thing was just plain silly however the film is very well made,the acting is excellent throughout,(maybe it's me but Eckhart as Dent outshines Ledger as Joker) it's commendably gritty and bleak for a summer blockbuster.the Shifting ratio didn't bother me at all.

Pitch Black HD-DVD 3.5/5

Haven't seen this in ages and it holds up pretty well.Diesel makes the Riddick character his own and the story is well played out by a decent cast.excellent hd-dvd transfer as well.

10 years ago a Jackie and Jet film would've been amazing, today they both past their best work and especially when they prefer working in America.

p.s - The Sonar concept is silly, it does allow for that excellent scene with Morgan Freeman though. I still think it's easily one of the best Super Hero films ever made. Much, much better than the first two Spider-mans (I've not bothered with the third).

That's because Gordon could only trust his close-knit team, he'd already had a run in with "corrupted" cops.

Fearless was only a couple of years ago and is a superb Jet Li film.

Seaman No.7 2/5

Disppointingly flat Jimmy Wang Yu actioner never really gets going and only sparks into life at the climax. Wang Yu plays a drifting sailor who flees to Japan when he thinks he's killed someone in a bar fight. the german dvd is a little dark but the print is pretty much free of print damage and is anamorphic.
