Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge (2007)
This was briefly discussed in the JP Exploit topic, but the category turned out wrong, and the pic deserves a topic of its own. I’ll get back to this as soon as I have the dvd in my hands, but meanwhile teaser and trailer, official site and poster:

There's a pretty decent chance it will be picked by a US distibutor at some point. But so far I haven't heard anything. It would be a crime if this was ignored - while all the cheap crap keeps getting releases in the US and HK.diceman wrote:The Japanese DVD hasn't got subs, so much I've checked already. But do you have any info on whether a wider international release will be due anytime soon? Because this looks awesome, and I'm not just refering to the title.

Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge (Japan, 2007)
A masked chansaw man falls from the sky and fights a schoolgirl armed with golf club. Cheap exploitation? Or a childish manga adaptation full of pretentious visual tricks? Neither. Shot on HD and then blown to 35 mm Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge is the most stylish romantic action comedy chainsaw bundle of all time (yeah, it’s the first one of its kind). It's also unexpectedly competently directed by first timer Takuji Kitamura and blessed with good leading performances by Hayato Ichihara (Rainbow Song, Lily Chou-Chou) and Megumi Seki.
Don’t expect a massacre – this chainsaw maniac only duels his reqular opponent, night after night – but the humour is plenty and actually rather clever. The film aknowledges what it is, and makes no excuses for it. There’s a good amout of CGI but it looks better than most Hollywood blockbusters. The actual chainsaw fights are short and sparse, but count among the most exciting action scenes of the past few years.

FR dvd coming next summer from Mad Asia.

I don't know the company very well, but their Kitamura dvds weren't all that great. NTSC to PAL conversions all except the theatrical cut of Versus (which was a port of the old FR dvd, and still makes all the other dvds look like vhs in comparison).

Dumbness costs. So does Nega Chan Complete Edition. Especially when it out of print.
Now that I've bought the film again, with the bonus disc attached, lets take a brief look at the Complete Edition contents. The standard edition comes with Disc 1 only and no booklet.
The packaging is a nice box with two normal amaray cases inside.

Solid special edition release. No big complaints with the transfer, which looks good throughout. Extras are quite good, too, especially the action scene making of and behind the scenes footage. The parody clip features scenes from the film, but with Yosuke Asari playing Hayato Ichihara's role. Oh, and that "wtf (4:39)" is "Nega Chain Channel", with some music and the chainsaw otoko standing in front of a table. I'm as confused as you are.
Some screencaptures.

Ah, that reminds me, that I still gotta sub my Japanese DVD.
Haven't watched it yet, but I still have so many DVDs lying around here to go through, so I don't wanna start with the best.
Since Hung Fist's been hyping this movie, I'll expect nothing less than a hugely entertaining masterpiece.

R1 review:

Interlaced and lacking almost all extras. But the film is fantastic, so if you need subs, go for it.
