The Cherry Orchard (Sakura no Sono)

There's a version from the 90s in which I'm very interested, but sadly the Japanese DVD is OOP. The upcoming remake, though, also directed by Shun Nakahara, looks like fluffy Coming-of-Age entertainment I could fall for. I'm not a big fan of AKB48, though, the girls a cute, sure, but they have that kind of commercial ring to their appearance I just don't like. But Aya Ueto's also performing, which at least should have HungFist interested. :D
I'll rather be aiming for the always beautiful Rei Kikukawa, though.

Now, what's it about? Basically "Cherry Orchard" tells about a bunch of girls in an all-girls-school, who are rehearsing for a schoolplay while experiencing lots of Coming-of-Age confusion on the way. Happy Times, Sad Times. Me likes.

Check out the trailer here. Kawaii desu ne?

There was a Japan Times review recently... I think Schilling wrote something about overly mainstream but decently enjoyable.

Nakahara is actually a former pink director. My files are listing a 1/5 rating for his Uno Koichiro no shimai riyoshitsu (1983). But apparently he's improved since. The original is supposed to be very good. Still a bit scary to associate my dear Aya (Kawaiiii!!!) with a director with such past... Will watch this for her, but no R2J purchase. The trailer looks too sugary for my taste but then again, all new japanese trailers look identical, no matter how the actual films is like.

hmmm...now that I stated looking into it, I noticed that in my review for Uno Koichiro it says "some jokes that make you laugh, and a very cute duck". So, I guess this guy had some talent already back then.

I just received the original version from the 90s. Japanese DVD, English subtitles included. It's OOP but I managed to dig up a used copy, although it cost me more than I've ever had to pay for an originally sealed DVD. Don't ask me, I won't tell you the amount:
