First the Chinese Ghost Story trilogy, then the Better Tomorrow trilogy, then the Swordsman trilogy.

Seven Sept / HK Vidéo / TF1 (they're all pretty much the same) are on a roll.

On september 16th, they'll release the In The Line of Duty saga (the boxset will contain the first 4 films).

Man, I love hearing the words "french", "asian film" and "blu-ray" in the same sentence. :D

The Host, November 27th.
http://www.amazon.fr/The-host-Blu-ray/dp/B001CRVY1E/

Hero, September 30th.
http://www.amazon.fr/Hero-Blu-ray-Jet-Li/dp/B001CRVYNW/
Just the TC, though (probably).

House of Flying Daggers, on the same day.
http://www.amazon.fr/secret-poignards-v ... 001CRVYOG/
Probably the censored US cut, though.

Taegukgi, still on september 30th.
http://www.amazon.fr/Freres-sang-Blu-ra ... 001CRVYOQ/
No idea which cut it'll be.

Is Bloody Tie any good? I've never heard of it.

I wonder how it will compare to the USA and UK HD-DVDs/BDs, both have decent transfers and losssless audio. Does the French BD?

How come? Any idea if Sony will remaster it? The USA BD sure needs remastering. It's looks no better than the DVD in places.

I wonder how it will compare to the Korean BD, with English subs.

Bloody Tie (or "Bloody Ties", it's difficult to be sure since there's no plural in korean) is a fairly soild thriller.

You really need to be a Ryu Seung-Beom fan to appreciate it, though.

Cheers.

Surely Bloody Ties is better? Bloody Tie sounds like a bad day at work :D. Yep it's definitely Bloody Ties, in English anyway.

Distributors often get it wrong when they translate something from Chinese, Korean or Japanese.

I'm pretty sure that Zhang Yimou's Hero isn't "Hero", it should be "Heroes".
And Musa can't be "The Warrior", it's "Warriors".

Every single character in Hero is a hero, just like all the main characters in Musa are warriors. Granted, Jet Li has a bigger part but there's no reason why the title should focus on him alone.

Warrior, Warriors, The Warrior... I presume it's all the same in korean.
But you have to choose one when you translate the title.

You're probably right Tom. Personally I use: Musa: The Warrior (or just Musa). So Warrior: Warrior :D.

"Musa-musa". Sounds like something you should say when picking up a phone in Asia.

Is it just me, or does it look like there are two Andy Laus on this HOFD cover?

Not being a fan of Ong Bak, I haven't followed up on that one.
Chances are it's still the cut Luc Besson version with that crappy french hip-hop soundtrack. Avoid unless you know for sure that it's the original cut.

If this had English subs I would snap it up. Love the ITLOD films, but only part four has had decent versions produced thus far.

Edit: Actually I'm having a brain fade, there's been HKL versions of 2 & 4, and a Fox version of 1. So just no decent version of part 3, and from what I can see, parts, 5, 6 & 7.

I have the Korean anamorphic release of Fong Sai Yuk 1+2 and it's reported to have the same transfer as the Japanese DVDs.
I don't know if the original film was filmed with a lot of inconsistent focus but the DVD goes from seemingly soft to pretty sharp focus a lot.
Let's hope that this is a new transfer (and color corrected) and that they don't transfer it too bright (Tai-Chi Master was too bright on their DVD. Some of the bright details got lost because of it).

It's funny you should say that, as I thought TCM French DVD was a wee bit too bright in places too. Not to the point it bothered me though.

BD subtitles

Post by mike dk »

Does anyone know if the french Blu-Ray releases feature english subtitles ? I'm very interessted in Hero.

Also - hopefully House of flying Daggers will not come from the same master as the US release which looked very bad in many parts of the film.

HKL did no. 1 rather than .2, if we're speaking HK wise!

Fox released Royal Warriors and ITLOD4 on R1.
