Reality show winner Leona may be but she is a good singer, and successful. She's one of the biggest artists in the UK ATM.
I thought that showing the Hindley picture was in very bad taste too :( (Although the video wasn't an Olympics video, it was still promoting London/Britain). Fleeting it may have been, but in poor taste :(

it shows you've got something to hide.

Absolute bollocks. The rules were in place, she broke them (missing 3 tests lol) then conveniently won the her appeal when the corrupt system realised she was probably one of the few chances the UK had of winning a track & field medal due to their general shitness.if Chambers had a realistic chance of a medal he'd have been there too.can you tell me the difference between her and Rio Ferdinand who missed 1 drug test and received a sizeable ban ? Where i work Grim and due to the nature of the job we have random drug screenings at 48 hours notice. Miss it or fail it and you are sacked. But she gets 3 chances

I thought you didn't go along with the majority of people, for majorities sake? :D

I agree to an extent but like Grim said China's handover was pants too.

Personally I think it's unfair to be banned for life for not being proven you've taken drugs.

That's extreme IMO. The rules are there for a reason but a life time ban should only occur when you've actually been proven. I'd imagine that is more reason why she won her appeal.

This athlete knew the rules, how about people taking responsibility for their own actions for once  this article sums it up for me:

Christine Ohuruogu won Britain's 16th gold last night - but I don't count it

Oliver Holt reports from Beijing 20/08/2008
Christine Ohuruogu

For the first ten days of these Olympic Games, the stunning achievements of British athletes have been cause for pride and admiration. That all changed last night.

Because when Christine Ohuruogu leaned forward so a gold medal could be draped around her neck, it brought only shame on Britain's Olympic team.

Shame because Ohuruogu was only in Beijing in the first place because of the craven hypocrisy and pragmatism of the British Olympic Association.

Shame because the BOA rolled over on its back and allowed a woman who showed utter contempt for the drug-testing system to sidestep the lifetime Olympic ban that should have been her punishment.

And shame because her success here sends out the message to young athletes that those who flaunt the drugs rules in Britain can prosper in the most spectacular way.

The rest of Britain's Olympic medallists in Beijing are heroes and heroines. But Ohuruogu's not. She's just someone who got away with it. The medals table might say we have 16 golds but not in my mind we don't.

We're still on 15. Ohuruogu's doesn't count. Ohuruogu may have run a brilliant race in the Bird's Nest last night to rein in and then overhaul the hot favourite, America's Sanya Richards.

It's just a pity she didn't run that fast one day in June 2006 when she found out she had an hour to get from her home in east London to where the testers from UK Sport were waiting for her.

If Ohuruogu had shown the same turn of speed to get to a cab rank or to Stratford tube station, she could have comfortably made what turned out to be her second missed test at Northwick Park in north London.

But she didn't try. And the BOA let her get away with it. Her case for overturning her ban was shot full of holes but they overturned it anyway.

Boa chairman Lord Moynihan and chief executive Simon Clegg probably thought their decision had paid off handsomely when Ohuruogu crossed the line last night. But it didn't. It backfired horribly. A few weeks after the BOA fought so tenaciously to uphold Dwain Chambers' lifetime ban, Ohuruogu's victory shone a light on Britain as a nation that is soft on drugs offences.

The BOA may trumpet the idea Britain stands firm on drugs offences but that's a lie. It doesn't.

Like Ohuruogu, triathlon star Tim Don and judoka Peter Cousins both missed three tests.

They had their lifetime bans quashed on appeal and competed in Beijing, too.

Both represent triumphs for athletes tainted by suspicion.

Triumphs that are more a cause for bitter regret than rejoicing.

Triumphs that should never have been allowed to happen.

But now we are stuck with it. Now British Olympic heroes like Chris Hoy, Ben Ainslie, Victoria Pendleton, Rebecca Romero and Rebecca Adlington have to share the Beijing roll of honour with someone whose biggest victory was beating the system.

That's why I couldn't celebrate when I sat high in the Bird's Nest last night and saw Ohuruogu cross the finishing line beneath me.

That's why I couldn't stand up and punch the air like some of the gullible souls who appear to have been suckered by Ohuruogu's pathetically simplistic drugs test excuses about being a scatty kid who's hopeless at organising herself.

And that's why it made me feel sick with despair when I saw someone of Lord Coe's stature demeaning himself by taking part in Ohuruogu's medal ceremony.

In so many ways, this has been an Olympics to relish, an Olympics that has filled Britain with pride in its athletes. Christine Ohuruogu has no place in it.

I agree with Brad on this.
So even though she was at a track across town, the testers make no attempt to find you afterwards, even if you're available. In any other country, it wouldnt be like that.
Rio recieved a sizeable ban yes, not as big as Chrsitines' but he was allowed to play football again, you're saying Chrsitine should have been banned for ever from Olympics AFTER she had been banned for a year from athletics, when it was not proved she took drugs, that is unfair IMO.

Grim in "i agree with Brad" shocker. have you even bothered to read the above article.? That's right Grim it's all those nasty testers fault,no way could it be dame Christine  She cheated the system and hopefully they'll find out one day, like they did with Sir Linford, alas too late. You are clearly a nationalist Grim, hence your posting of the latest results of that other shit football team you follow,England.

I did read the article thank you. So you don't think being banned for life without any proof is harsh? Even the disciplinary commitee said "There is no suggestion she is guilty of taking drugs". The article keeps suggesting she did it on purpose. Why? Never mind she also passed 6 in competition tests during the same period as the 3 "missed" ones.

So if other people miss 3 drug screenings do we have to let them off?do you think Ben Johnson and Linford Christie failed every test they took.? these cheats work their drug taking well, they know when the stuff will be out of their system etc.there wouldn't be any proof would there as the calculating athlete deliberately missed the tests lol ! According to your mealy mouthed wishy washy crap then Dame Chris should in no way take responsibility for her actions then

Where did I even remotely say that? And stop calling her Dame Chris. Other athletes such as Darren Campbell and Kelly Holmes, very anti drugs, have condemned the system as bloody stupid and that they dont think her suspicious. IMO its harsh to tar her wirh the same brush as people like Ben Johnson, Marion Jones, Dwain Chambers, that female Eastern European at this Olympics (javelin thrower I think), who I forget the name of, who was stripped of her medal after testing positive, etc. Dwain Chambers did his time and was then clean but he DID take drugs. Surely you see some difference?
Now we've turned to sport/drug taking :D
Anyway if she's a drug taker why is she performing better now than at the time of the "missed" tests? Surely she'd have to be screened before a race etc?

Maybe she was, which was stupid. But she served her initial punishment and I just think a lifetime Olympic ban for that which is unproven is OTT. If she DID dope then she should have been banned, to set an example, thats different.

TBH i really don't give a fuck about her and athletics in general,i haven't since the days of Coe & Ovett but there is no doubt in my mind as the article states her medal is tainted somewhat.Grim if you honestly think a top athlete knowing the strict doping test rules would "forget" to attend 3 screenings then there's nothing else to add really  :drunken: :alien: :bom:

That was what I thought. Dwain's mistake was in taking the test not cheating. That seems to be the message. Missing three tests is the same as guilt in sport - or at least it should be.

Yes, but London represents the UK, as Beijing represntes China. Many of the events will be held outwith London, as far flung as Scotland. Shock. I saw nothing reconisibly of Scotland represented. To me (and I'm sure millions of viewers who don't live in the South East) there was little British flavour in the presentation, and in a desperate bid to make it multi-cultural the committee instead made it anonymous. It may as well have been titled "Anywhere 2012".

Fair point but like I already said the Chinese opening/closing show didn't show anything about Tibet or Kashcar for example. It was all about the Majority Chinese ethnicity, not Minorities. The Kashcar people weren't even allowed to see the torch run through their streets. They literally had to watch it on TV as it went on outside, most bizarre.

I'd tend to agree if we were talking about the opening ceremony but this was just an 8 minute preview. It's like complaining a trailer doesn't show much of a film, it's not supposed to.

You're just being your usual grumpy Scottish self :D. Otherwise sorry, too many words to read through.

Mark: If you ever doubted English people 'have pride/patronism for their countrymen: Watch the news!

Rebecca Addington is being treated like Royalty, as are other athletes. The footage is remarkable, there are thousands of people cheering her. Live on BBC News 24 now.
