Crank: Theatrical Cut

7 out of 10

So much better than Transporter/Transporter 2 in the action stakes, not as good as Transporter 2 in the story stakes. What an utterly mad film. Jason Statham was the perfect person to play the role and watching him run around with just a hospital bed gown on was hilarious. He should've been dead at least a dozen times

.

The length was perfect, thank god they didn't decide to make it 100/120 minutes long. It's not quite a keeper for me, it's no Die Hard or Speed.

Amy Smart is hot too, lovely boobies! 8).

I'm really not sure what this film was trying to be, really strange mix of decent comedy and unoriginal down and out drama.

"Sling Blade" 4/5
Well made and well acted but perhaps the most predictable film ever made.

"A Few Good Men" 5/5
Great cast and script, what really does it for me is the lack of real villains; we understand Nicholson's Jessop's motivations and they make sense. What happened to poor Tom Cruise? He had a sort of zeal in his early roles, now he's ana ctual zealot.

"The Elephant Man" 3/5
I'll probably be lynched for this (geddit?) but I got bored about an hour before the end and turned off. Some great acting but I'd seen it all before and knew where it was going.

"The Warlords" 2/5
YAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN! Tried to be a war-drama but used actors who can't live up to their proffession, and that ridiculous little side-plot?

I got the German extended cut HD DVD, but its dam costly for anyone else (I got it very cheap luckily).

Sorry to disapoint Brad but them may not be Amys boobs, insert shots from the look of it

still she does seem to get them out in part 2 from what I have sen so far haha

The German HD-DVD or BD is a minimum of £22.99. I'd get the USA BD if I wanted it. The German disc costs too much, for me.

Agreed. Cruise was really good back in the day. Today he's so far up his own backside and never bothers to really act any more.

Yes. Amy Smart's boobs are definitely on display or rather maybe an actress. It's during the scene where Chev shags Amy in public, remember?.

It looks like the usual saddo insert shot, they do it way to often in films. If the actress aint got a face in the sae shot, its rarley her body.

The german disc is too much

I would not have got it if I did not fluke my way and grab it for under £5 as an appology from a company.

I do recall that scene, but I still can't bring the boobs to my mind. I do remember the Japanese girls in the bus, though...

To be fair. I don't expect an actress wants her boobs displayed for all the world to see. £5, that's impressive.

Above the Law (USA, 1988) – 3/5
Seagal’s debut. There’s an actual storyline with a point of some sort, but some further editing would’ve been good. At 99 min the film is a bit too long. Seagal is great as always (even though with no ponytail this time) and some of his real life history is written into the character, which is nice. Pretty good although rather small scale action scenes. Pam Grier co-stars in a decent supporting role.

A few good ideas here and there, a pretty landscape, but that's pretty much it.
I'll admit the jailbreak sequence is awesome, and so's the fight on the rope bridge.
Pretty average film, though.

Into the Night (USA, 1985) – 3/5
Nice entertainment thriller with loads of cameos. Feels a little long but not necessarily in a bad way.

Doomsday (UK & Others, 2008) – 4/5
Gotta take ½ star away from the rating because of the overly fast editing. Otherwise the film is still fantastic, the kind of movie almost nobody has balls to do anymore.

I saw INTO THE NIGHT a while back - surprisingly little known considering its pedigree (John Landis, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle the Fifer) . A touch uneven, but it's a quite funny and engaging romp, not disimilar to the same year's After Hours, and a bit more mainstream.

People have the balls evertime a new violent film comes out, so yes they do have the balls, ever few months in fact.

The films a total mess, but fun thats for sure. Shame they gutted the film, it felt like it sadly

some parts were so bad I wanted to be sick in the cinema, but by the end it kind of balnaced itself out and the good bits eroded at the really shit bits.

Ridiculous CGI-enhanced farce.
Weak dialogue, poor acting, more anachronisms and factual errors than I could possibly count, old gags being recycled forever...
And what about that nuclear explosion? Are we supposed to believe you can survive a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge ? Come on!

I'm all for a little exaggeration, but it has to remain somewhat believable.

1 point for the hilariously funny Cate Blanchett.
I'd like to give it another point, but this film really has no redeeming features. 1/5 is as high as I can go.

I didn't mean how violent it is, I meant how it dares to be what it is, an 80's post apocalypse film, without explaining itself too much. Most of the other violent films nowadays just follow a safe and popular format (like the Saw films), but I'd say the majority of people who see Doomsday won't understand it. We live the days when mainsteam audiences didn't even get Grindhouse, despite all the underlining and education in the marketing (I've heard people saying they would've enjoyed Planet Terror more if the machine gun leg wasn't so unrealistic). I'm not sure if they can appreciate the best scenes/elements in Doomsday (the punk vehicles, the knight appearing in the forest etc). Instead they'll probably enjoy the worst parts (like Mithra's intro on the boat) best.

I dont think there is much to get with Doomsday, its just a silly, fun, over the top, bloody sick action flick

But I will say I hated beyond words the Knights and the Castle scenes, in fact they gutted the film, it was a step into ignorance for me. Good job the end car scenes more than made up for them, with some cracking stunts and deaths

highs and lows in the film for me, it could have been really superb if they had not went a bit stupid.

Thing is if the world ended today, it would never in a million years go like that film did. Why do people always think dressing up like a dick makes it feel futuristic, where do they get the hair dye and hairspray and all that damn body pain and tatoo stuff from

that look is crap for me, I hated it in the end of the world films in the 80's and I still do now.

To be fair it was woefully marketed, at least over here. Even then, wasn't Grindhouse back in the 70s something of a niche market? Do you really reckon Grindhouse would ever become popular by the masses?

I agree with Toms Nuke comment (the jungle swinging bit was shit as well, as was the Alien end) but that about all I can agree on. Doesnt mean his taste is even close to mine, or yours as you liked the film compared to him.

Nothing to do with reading a person when you make comments like that.

as for Doomsday, everyone can appreciate a superb action scene, fight and some gore and violence

unless you are a My Little Pony reader still.
