Yes IMO it helps.

Not for sure as Mann's Ali is very good but they're better as we can remember the person we've lost.
Ah you forget about the superb biopic, Ray.

Jamie Foxx met Ray Charles a few times and which surely helped Foxx greatly. The result was Foxx truly BECOMING Charles on screen. Also Taylor Hackford's film was endorsed by Charles.

This is a rare dvd. You won't find it on Amazon.

http://www.alapage.com have it.
So do http://www.asia-diffusion.com
And http://www.cinemasie.com/vente/

I hope some of the e-tailors ship to where you live (where are you anyway ?).

Think I'll try Cinemaise. Is it secured against credit card fraud?

Tell me about it. I bought that one two years ago and couldn't watch it (bad subs, washed-out colors).

Then Vive La France it is!

I was thinking of getting the 2 disc set containing Iron Fisted Monk - cut in UK - and Warriors Two - awful, awful sound mix on other DVDs - but the price is nearly £30 at most sites. Guess I'll have to wait

http://www.cdiscount.com has that boxset with a 20,99 € price tag (~14 quid ).
I don't think they ship internationally, though.

Its £21 at Alapage, which does ship internationally. That'll have to do.

Thanks for all the info

Surely the uber cheap Fox DVDs are better for you Ivan? Surely the French DVDs aren't better/wildly better than the Fox DVDs?

Bar dubtitles of course.

I thought the mono soundtrack provided on the FOX Warriors Two disc was a downmix from the "evil-cantopop remix".

That's another reason to prefer HK Vidéo.

The Fox DVD of W2 has a downmix masquerading as a mono track. Of all the films in the batch, this one got unlucky

Ah yes I forgot that reason also. I'd get the Fox DVD but then again I can't read French.

So the others got proper mono soundtracks? It's just this title that has a fake mono soundtrack?

I think Legacy Of Rage had this problem too. Not sure

W2 is SO obvious. There's a wierd explosion noise added to key strikes - say goodbye to that cool echo sound you know and love - and bizarly, there's a Sam Hui cover of an Elvis Presley song in the tea house scene

News:

Here is a link to a video interview of Jackie Chan recorded in Paris in late June.
It's a very interesting 49-minute video in which Jackie analyzes modern Asian filmmaking and talks about his next career moves.

Well worth a watch. I've never seen Jackie being so honest about his movies. :)

WARNING:
-Most of the questions asked to Jackie are in french (with french subs below the picture).
-The english translation bits between the journalist and Jackie are cut out.
-Jackie's answers are in english (with french subs below the picture).

In other words: you can't understand the questions (if you don't speak or read french :D ) but Jackie is so easy to understand that I'm sure you guys won't have any problems figuring it out.

The video is in smil format (shortcut to a streaming RealMedia file). You can play it with RealOne Player or Media Player Classic with the Real Alternative filter.

Enjoy !

News:

Tsui Hark has announced that there are good chances that the 4-hour cut of Seven Swords WILL come out on DVD, but it requires approval from the distributors.

It would also require a lot of post-production work to complete the missing SFX.

Tsui is also about to record an audio commentary for Seven Swords.

Right now, Tsui is working on the script of the first sequel to Seven Swords. He also said that he's taking into account the reviews that the first film got.

Lack of depth for some of the characters, inappropriate music, cutting of the fight-sequences...

Did someone also have scheduled a R1 or UK release of Longest Nite?

A few questions for Tom:-

1. Do French MGM releases of English language films (including big Hollywood ones) typically have removable or forced French subs?

2. Same question for Columbia releases of English language films.

3. How's Christophe Gan's Crying Freeman? Any good? Does the French SE have forced subs when playing the original English track?

Thanks.

A few answers for EvaUnit:-

1. Most of the old multilanguage releases (I'm thinking Terminator, Blown Away, Conan the Destroyer, Man with the iron mask, etc...) have removable subs.
I can confirm that some recent releases (Ronin SE, Dead Like Me S1) also feature removable subs.

Basically I have yet to find an MGM release with forced subs.
Still, you should ask me first if you're planning on buying a french MGM disc. Better safe than sorry.

2. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon = Forced.
Final Fantasy = removable.
Gladiator = removable.
Jurassic Park = removable.
The Mummy, Patriot = removable.

Most Columbia titles should have removable subs.

3. It's supposed to be the best edition out there.
Subs are forced because of the presence of cantonese dialogue if I recall correctly.
+ There are no english subs.
The disc is full of extras, with interviews, trailers, making-ofs and an audio commentary.

Cheers. I'm planning on getting the upcoming French release (out Sept 14th I think) of the Raging Bull Ultimate Edition (MGM), cuz it's so damn cheap on cd-wow.

Is the actual film Crying Freeman any good?

90% chance of removable subs, I say.
Is the actual film Crying Freeman any good?
Too much style, not enough substance.
I much prefer Dragon From Russia.

But you shouldn't listen to me, because...errm...well...check out my sig to see what I mean. :D
