Aye i watched this yesterday, not bad at all. Dont go expecting decent action scenes though, even though korean stuntfighter Jung Doo Hong handles alot of the action scenes they are nothing special.
It's easy to see why it was nominated for an Oscar. It's a fantastic film but don't go in expecting wall to wall action it's more of an "Epic Drama" with moments of action, much of it brutal. I think Tigercage is being harsh on the action I thought it was decent. The film could've probably done with one more battle.
Mongol spends almost all of the running time showing us Ghengis Khan before he becomes Ghengis Khan.
It is a little hard to believe the man depicted in Mongol goes on to rule so many countries, he's a bit of a weakling for a good part of the film. Okay maybe not weak, but he doesn't come across as particularly tough. Khulan Chuluun (Ghengis Khan's wife) impresses.
The music and vistas are particularly impressive. I wonder how accurate it is, especially about the origins of his kids. It's one I'll get on BD.

I guess its down to personal opinion on what one would consider 'decent'. The films 2 biggest draws for me were Asano in the lead role and Jung Doo Hong’s action direction. Asano delivered and the film itself was satisfying however the action was sub par for me!
