I think it was the cut version, because on IMDb it says one of the cut bits is a Stephen Chow cameo with a dog, and I don't recall that. The film seemed long enough as it was, I think another 22 minutes would have killed me!

The cut version is missing all the best jokes (Stephen Chow, Chow Yun Fat etc.).

Great film, Jackie's best from the late 90's.

Agreed. I saw it a few months back on the woeful uncut HK DVD. I thought the romantic element worked well enough but the action was really ham fisted in to it.

The film stopped dead whenever Jackie fought. I appreciate it's what the audience wanted but he shouldn't have bowed to public pressure. I'd give it about the same rating. It's certainly no keeper.

The jokes were so funny I cannot remember any of them

. At best I remember smiling a few times.

Naked Killer

3 out of 10

I liked Naked Weapon (except for the awful rape scene) and I was hoping this exploitation flick would be kind of similar but sadly it's not.

I wasn't expecting a masterpiece but I was expecting some decent action and oodles of Tits and Ass. The action was mediocre by Hong Kong action standards, the script was poor and the acting even worse (wooden would be kind).

But worst of all for a film that sells itself 50% on the sexy ladies we barely got to see any. Chingmy Yau is gorgeous but I wanted to see her well tits and ass god damn it

. What was with all the covering up of her boobs???

And what the bloody hell was up with the paedophiles locked in the cellar scene? As if all paedophiles are sex crazed loons, surely it must've struck the film-makers as odd that a paedophile of all people would find a grown adult sexually arousing.

I'd be giving it 2 out of 10 if not for the fact Chingmy Yau is gorgeous.

I'll certainly be putting this one on eBay. It's not CAT3 in my book, more like CAT2.5. Very poor indeed!

Naked Killer is far better than Naked Weapon.

That cellar scene is one of my favourite scenes in the film. Brilliant.

Chingmy Yau and Simon Yam are both excellent in the film.

I don't believe Chingmy has ever shown it all. Not even in the dream I had

Except for that scene, Naked Weapon is good, with some great action. When I bought the DVD I made my own disc cutting that scene out, it stops the film dead and doesn't fit with the "fun" tone at all. It cannot have been easy for the women to film.

An Empress and the Warriors (2008)

An emperor is seriously injured during battle and decides to let one of his best high ranks Muyong Xuehu (Donnie Yen) take over his army but when the former's nephew Wu Ba (Kau Jan Hoi) hears this he's disappointed and angry and suddenly takes the emperor's life in secret while wanting to take the position as the army leader. But during a big meeting where most of the high ranks want Muyong to take the lead, the lead is instead taken by the emperor's inexperienced daughter Yen Feier (Kelly Chen). When she accepts the position it's up to Muyong to train her become an effective leader as well as a warrior while Wu Ba and his men secretly prepare to assassinate Feier and leaving the position to none other than himself...

While the production looks a bit cheap (not low-budgetary) and most of the movie is covered with CG (including rain and other small details!), plus being too fast-paced for an ancient war movie, the movie still manages to entertain with its' action scenes and drama. Kelly Chen was good, probably the best I've seen her in so far and looks ok when she fights which gets which surprises a bit considering that she seldom does MA/action in movies. But her role got everywhere and you really wonder what her true intentions are when she just shifts from being with a guy she falls for and being an empress all the same and is confusing the story alot. Speaking of story, this was very underdeveloped and seemed to focus more on love than war. bleh. Leon Lai didn't help either and plays a lone wolf whose life is enlighten when he meets Feier for the first and from there on the downside of the movie begins. But as you might expect, the movie's got Donnie Yen so you'll know it won't be much of a waste. He kicks ass once again (good scenes but not great) but I'd like to say that his acting is worth more than anything else in the movie. In fact, screw everyone! If you want action you have Donnie. You want drama, you have Donnie. He doesn't show much but it's a sign that he's going somewhere with acting and hopefully while he will try to top his choreography and fight creatively under other choreographers; you will also see a new side of him as an actor (which I'm sure he will succeed with). So does the overall movie do justice at all? Find out for yourselves. For me, I actually enjoyed it but it's far from a great movie. Rating: 6/10

After This Our Exile (2006)

Chow Lok Yun (Gow Ian Iskander) is boy who lives a rough life because of his father Chow Cheoung Shing (Aaron Kwok) and mother Lee Yuk Lin (Charlie Yeung) who both have low-salary jobs and fight alot because of Shing's gambling and debts that is affecting their economical savings. One normal day, Lin decides to run away from them as she can't stand living poor. This causes Shing and Yun to leave home and wonder around the streets and look for jobs and turn into crime, with unhappy results.

Patrick Tam impresses (he's the director of My Heart is that Eternal Rose which wasn't all that great)! It's very well shot with great use of locations (takes place in Malaysia I suppose), cinematography, music, storytelling and, above all, actors. Aaron Kwok has never looked this intense and emotional before and proves what he goes for! Charlie Yeung and kid actor Gow Ian Iskander do equally well and prove themselves at the utmost of their abilities which shows. One thing that could've been better was the editing and the pace (plot holes are evident), but I guess that's what the director's cut makes up for so overall it's not too bad. Rating: 8.5/10

hey,

I do mean the one from 1980, starring Adam Cheng, Norman Tsui and the great Tien Feng. Splendid atmos, gory swordplay and now available on German dvd that features all the essentials, inc English subs.

The Sword from 1971 starring Jimmy Wang Yu is the one from Crash Cinema and is coincidentally probably as good if not a better Wuxia. There we talk about splendid majestic design and atmosphere, carefully crafted. Don't let the Crash print featuring the good ol' cinema subs discopurage you. You'll get used to it and you'll be totally immersed.

She was okay, overly praised IMO. She didn't get naked either

How do you say Ng btw? I'm sure it cannot be pronounced how it sounds, can it?

I'd have preferred Naked Weapon in Cantonese but as most of them can speak decent English and many are native speakers I didn't mind.

The last time I checked Naked Killer was made in 1992
