I was thinking the same. The HK DVD easily looks better, it looks to have DTS over the UK R2 too. I'd get the BD now though.

Thanks Beat.

Region 2 is an Edge enhanced crapfest from the look of it. Muppets.

Glad I avoid standard dvds of many newer films and go for Blu Rays :D as surley the Blu Ray wont be edge enhanced to death! but you never know!

Too much contrast boosting on the R3, too much EE on the R2.
Still the R3 is the way to go IMO.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

How do you know it's really dvd contrast booting? Today most films of these type are intended to look like crap and have zero detail. I never understood why.

Contrast boosting erases detail in dark and bright areas.
If it's on the original print, all DVDs will automatically look like crap (You can't make those details reappear by reducing the contrast: once they're gone, they're gone).

In this case, it's clear that it's a DVD-related issue (since the R2 doesn't have it).

R3 def wins image-wise. But I'm still very satisfied with R2 overall, at least the subs are joined together mostly and better translated making the read much easier.
