Paramount reveal their BD schedule (finally)

Post by EvaUnit02 »

Paramount have finally unveiled their Blu-ray plans with the launch on 20th May of 5 titles, which are...

'Cloverfield'
'Face/Off'
'Next'
'Bee Movie'
'There Will Be Blood.'

These will be followed on June 24 with 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' a day-and-date release with the standard DVD.

More details here...

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/ ... Plans/1696
I'd wager that the likes of Zodiac, Sweeney Todd and that shitty Michael Bay robot movie will along in time for the 2008 Xmas season, at the latest.

Good news about Face/Off though, we'll see how it stacks up against the uncut Buena Vista Euro/Aus copies - IQ/AQ wise. New encode on a BD50 + lossless audio please.

Is this a UK schedule? If so, I won't bother with Face/Off because it will more than likely be cut.
TH-42PX80 | DMP-BD50 (MR BD & DVD) | SA-XR55 | SB-TP20 | XBox 360 Slim 250GB | XBox (XBMC, 160GB) | Zotac XBMC HTPC | Gaming PC | 8TB Media Server

America, I would presume. Because Face/Off is a Buena Vista release in the UK and they already released it on BD (It was cut. Buena did release Uncut BDs in mainland Europe and Australia.).

What are the odds that those discs will be region-free?
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

We'll have to wait and see. The same question lingers for the coming Universal BDs too.

I hear Cloverfield and There will be Blood aren't coming until June and Face/Off is a carbon copy of the existing HD-DVD. I don't know if it will be a new transfer or not though.

The following BDs are getting re-released too:

World Trade Centre
Dreamgirls
Disturbia
Sleepy Hollow
The Untouchables
Aeon Flux
Black Snake Moan
Coming to America
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Babel
The Warriors
We Were Soldiers
Trading Places

The UK & German "There Will Be Blood" is covered by Disney and compares well against the Paramount BD:

Paramount USA BD: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... blood.html
Disney UK/German BD: http://www.theimportforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12504

The Disney BD will get English PCM compared with English TrueHD on the Paramount BD. The Paramount BD is likely to have HD extras, the Miramax one may not.

Also:
According to the studio, the titles are identical to the original releases, with the same tech specs and supplement details.

I'll be picking up:

Babel
Face/Off
There will be Blood - It's likely to be cheaper than the UK BD!

Thanks for the news btw Eva.

Regarding Face/Off: It's a pity Paramount didn't add Lossless to the spec. The Full-rate DD+ has even been replaced with DD5.1. I hear the Full-rate DTS is better than it though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder where the MI3 re-release is. I guess it will come.

Grrr none of the BD re-releases have Lossless audio. They all just offer DD5.1 or DD5.1/Full-rate DTS, it's roughly half with DTS half without. At least all of the new BD releases have DD5.1 or Lossless Audio (except for Face/Off).

I'd pick up these: The Untouchables, Mission: Impossible, M:I-2

Might take another look at (if it was cheap enuff): Four Brothers

Pity Payback is ONLY the DC. C'mon Paramount give us BOTH versions or at least the TC on its own. (Might have to wait for Warners to release this in Europe).

Personally I wouldn't downgrade to inferior releases.

No,not at the moment.i figure my money is best spent on stuff i haven't got than replacing perfectly good hd-dvds.if it's an absolute bargain or the BD is better then in certain cases yes.

More on Transformers:

Classic. As I suspected all that talk of the Transformers DD+ being transparent to lossless audio has turned out to be twaddle, everyone saying lossless audio wasn't included as there is no difference has also turned out be utter tosh :D.

Fair point. I'm willing to bet once it is out people and reviewers will prefer the TrueHD or PCM.

Why would Paramount include it if the DD+ sounded identical? As was claimed at the time. Paramount never included lossless on the HD-DVD simply because space was always an issue.

Who knows :D

All I know is the HD DVD version is far cheaper than the Blu Ray will be, so unless its one hell of a better track, your wasting you cash :D

Still I will bet the Blu Ray Transformers will be the extended Imax cut anyway (surley! as if not double dip in a years time!!) so it will be an upgrade anyway, unless they are fools and milk everyone.

The HD-DVD does also have Full-rate DD+ and many say the cross over point is 1.5Mbps meaning anything higher you cannot notice it. Then again others love lossless audio, so who knows.

I'll find out sometime next year when I upgrade my Amp but for now Full-rate 1.5Mbps will do me nicely. My Amp is doing me well though, it's still more than capable 7-8 years on.

The HD-DVD is cheaper but long term the BD will be the one to own.

How much longer is it? I bet the BD won't be the Imax cut.

Me either. I put it down to Masculine fanboys.

I enjoyed it but it's no keeper and as you know 2007 was a particularly poor year for Summer blockbusters, which makes it better than it otherwise would be.

Did anyone see it? Surely it tanked.
