Very talented yes, genius no.
Hi,

I think you're being a little harsh there Brad. If you were watching all of Jackies films as and when they were beig made you might appreciate the impact that they had on audiences and the HK film industry as a whole a lot more.

Seeing them all retrospectively and, if you like, ODing on them may have spolied your judgement somewhat. Certainly there have been better films made in the years since some of Jackie's established 'classics', but you may have seen some of them before the Jacie films that predate them.

I remember watching a Cantonese boot of Project A in late '83 and it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Like wise I saw Police Story and Heart of the Dragon at the end of '85 start of '86 and so on. Maybe that's why some of the films retain their classic status with me. Nostalgia can be a strong cloud to judgement sometimes.

You'll get no argument from me on the decline in Jacki'e movies in the last decade or so, apart form some flourishes he's been pretty bad. As for being directed by others, Jackie was always the favourite son at GH and got the best budgets, so his films were always technically better than other directors if not more enjoyable.

All the more reason to appreciate the golden years of his career.

Cheers,

By the way, nice video, makes me want to watch lots of his film over!!
