Brad's Moderating Style!
I'll soon add myself to that list, if things keep going this way...
Bradavon: Okay how about a compromise? -
1. I'll stop moving threads all the time, unless it's something silly like an Asian film topic posted in Feedback.
2. I'll stop splitting threads off, unless they go really off topic, such as the example I give below.
3. I'll do my best to rise above any arguments.
How about that? In return I ask -
1. All this childish snide remarks stop!
2. If you dislike something I say which is connected to me not my moderating do your best to rise above it!
3. If you disagree with a moderators action you PM Tom or myself.
Because believe me I've been thinking of leaving just as much as you guys.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

That would be a shame....tom2681 wrote:I'll soon add myself to that list, if things keep going this way...
... plus why not just take away Brad's modding-powers, as that seems to be about half the cause of why we constantly get pissed at him...
A good mod is a lazy mod, except for spam and racist posters (doesnt happen here)

Just like you, I'm sick of seeing moved/split threads everywhere.
Just like you, I can't stand this anymore.
Just like you, there's not much I can do about it.
I'm not an admin.
Just wait for a few days. Maybe Brad will calm down a bit.
If he doesn't...
I'll quit, create my own forum and invite all the people who have been alienated by this "new" BnB.
How does that sound?

It would be a shame to leave BNB, and as I said before, I have no intention to do so, but if the new forum exists of all the regulars here, MINUS the overactive modding (at times), then I guess it's no big deal.
Something really snapped inside of me when Brad resized my Big-boobed woman picture

Do we need to be discussing this in yet another thread? What's wrong with the original?
I tried to demote myself last Summer, you guys wouldn't let me

@ Tom: Please PM me if you want to discuss, don't you think that would be more appropriate?
@ Yi: I'm well aware you dislike my style of moderating thinking moderators should moderate less but why cannot you understand I don't moderate how you want me to and just deal with it?
@ Everyone (except Grim
) - Serious question: What do you guys do on other forums when a moderator does something you dislike? I presume this isn't the only forum you all visit?
Do you all start 6 page rant fests every time it happens? I presume you don't as most forums actually ban people and regularly delete posts to bring threads back on topic.
Seriously I'm at a loss why you think the odd bit of moderating I do is so rare and unique to this forum. It's happened to me many times on AV Forums (for example) and all I've done is PM'ed the Moderator in question telling him I disagree but then ultimately saying "Fair enough" and moving on. I've not ranted at him publicly for 5 days straight in the hope he'll suddenly reverse his action, which just makes things worse.
Maybe sometimes I moderate things which don't need moderation but I get ranted at whenever I moderate anything, lately it seems just for the sake of ranting. I'll give you an example:
The thread had been going way off topic for the past 2 days/had gone over a couple of pages. Lourdes said it was unproductive (how?) but Hung thought I did the right thing. Should I merge the thread back (which cannot be done but you get the point) and at the same time piss Hung off?
Can someone explain (without ranting!) what is such a big deal about threads being split off or moved?
Personally speaking I think it's more logical to split off then move threads (if there is one thing I maybe do too much of). We do go really off topic for pages and pages at times. An example would be the recent Name your Top 3 Guilty Pleasure Action films? thread. It was going so off topic.
I split it and both Romero and Yi moaned (Yi even said it was only going off topic a little) but in reality the new thread that was created (The Usual Bullets Banter!) is now larger than the original it came from.
If it had remained where it was it would've completely swamped the entire point of the original thread. It was my thread and I didn't want that, just like anyone else can ask the same of their threads.
p.s - As to my personality, well I put up with your annoying personalities, what's the difference? Which actually amounts to 4-5 vocal members not all members on the forum.

I don't have a problem with your modding Brad - eg splitting the thread (the Matks out of 5 one) was fair enough as we were going OT. All the bitching about spelling/grammar from some is OTT, IMO. It's the bloody internet, as long as a post is relatively typo free and easy to understand, then it's fine IMO.

I like compromises.
@Brad:
Personally, I think that "All this childish bitching stops!" will mainly depend on your ability to "stop moving threads all the time".
And if you could put your pedantic hat down from time to time, you'd see that people would like you a lot more.

My thoughts exactly.
Sure, some threads sometimes need to be split/moved.
But not all the time and not without warning.
A little bit of restraint would go a long way.

Can you say if you agree, disagree or partly disagree/agree (if so how?) to my compromise? Please.
How do you warn someone you're about to split/move a thread? Surely that would be illogical to ask a question (which most people will ignore) before moving/splitting a thread. You either move/split it or you don't.
p.s - Personally I don't understand how this being a small forum makes any difference, either a thread needs splitting/moving or it doesn't. Fair enough though.

Tedious and pedantic. Just let it alone and nboody will give you grief, quite simple.

I know that's how you do it.Brad wrote:You either move/split it or not.
It's the "I've moved the thread already, hope you don't mind." that pisses off most people.
Righty-o.Can you say if you agree
1. I'll stop moving threads all the time, unless it's something silly like an Asian film topic posted in Feedback.
Yay!
2. I'll stop splitting threads off, unless they go really off topic, such as the example I give above.
That'd be great. I'm tired of logging in everyday to find out that there are several new threads that have popped up from nowhere and contain posts that aren't connected to anything.
3. If you disagree with a moderators action you PM Tom or myself.
Yes, please PM Brad instead of bitching about him in public.
And if you're too shy: PM me and I'll bitch-slap him on your behalf.

Thanks Tom and Grim. That's 2 replies out of the 8 members who got a PM.
@ Tom: I just cannot see it working asking permission before moving/splitting a thread every time one needs doing, that's all. Anyway it's not important.
@ Lourdes: It's not as simple as that, please work with me and not against me. I am trying to compromise, humour me
I do want to come to some compromise so for my own selfish reasons people stop posting snide remarks.

Will compromise always be the final solution? If yes, then why would you say something like
Anyway, before you'll feel offended about me not meeting the demands in your PM, I'll just explain why I don't feel the need to reply here. The more people reply to this thread, the bigger the whole issue gets. And quite frankly, it has already been made way bigger than it actually is. BnB was fine 1 or 2 weeks ago. If we simply switch back to that, it will all be fine. Brad goes back to the cool mod he used to be and I'll stop arguing with him (as long as he doesn't give me shit about every single statement I make or my personal opinions like about gay movies).either a thread needs splitting/moving or it doesn't.

Again... that's a given.2. I'll stop splitting threads off, unless they go really off topic, such as the example I give above.
...but I like the bitching threads...3. I lock all "bitching" threads so we can start a fresh.
Cause they're not about ME, but about YOU. And you deserve it!
Maybe we wouldnt act 'childish' if you werent constantly talking down to us, acting all high and mighty!?How about that? In return I ask:
1. All this childish bitching stops! (including Shingster, especially)
(Plus I dont think we are being childish. I think we have behaved pretty well, and now it's coming out cause we had enough...)
Why should we rise above it, when you never do!?2. If you dislike something I say which is connected to me not my moderating you rise above it! (including Shingster, especially)
Whenever there is an opportunity to start a huge discussion about little shit, be it on purpose or because you cant read properly, you jump on us like a raving lunatic
You gotta learn to be more Zen, man
Why would I wanna go through the trouble of writing a big PM to you, when I dont trust you, considering you even delete posts and threads that are 'out in the open'!?3. If you disagree with a moderators action you PM Tom or myself.
Because believe me I've been thinking of leaving just as much as you guys.
I could PM Tom, but why would I wanna bother poor Tom!? And what's he gonna do about it!?
So no, I wont PM nobody. If I have something to say, like a complaint or whatever, I say it out in the open, possibly in the off-topic or feedback topics.

That's exactly why we dont need an overactive mod. We're a small, well-behaved forum, not a lot of new threads every day, so why move everything around and split everything up, while the 10-20 posters here know where everything is and should be...romerojpg wrote:I have no probsonly bitched once when some posts were moved, its always been run fairly smooth as hey there aint much to do and its not like other forums where people are banned for swearing, and moaning at mods etc..
If this were a forum of 100+ active users, than it might be a different matter... but it's not.

I think all the talking about it angers more people than anything else, lots of threads about probs and crap like that stir up many it seems. Some have reasons to be shaken and stired I guess.
But hey it aint a classy forum, and I never expect a classy perfect set of posts by one and all (some try mind you). This place just seems like a strange talky site where we go off topic and bitch about everything and say the kind of things others do not say on other places.

Going to bed, now.
I wonder how many members will be left when I return tomorrow.
Bah, no matter. it's all part of "Tom & 68Monkey's master plan".
I'm a mod too, damnit. Why can't I piss people off?
