Are you joking ?
I'd sell several of my organs just to catch a glimpse of Casshern in High-Definition.

Is Protege any good? I don't think it's been mentioned it's out on HK BD:

Here is what Slasher thought:

p.s - According to xploitedcinema.com it IS Region A but it doesn't say if they've actually checked.

GITS:SAC complete blu-ray boxset, Japanese TrueHD 5.1 + English subs.

As much as I like this series, that price is WAY out my price range.

EDIT: Wait, it's just the compilation summary films + SSS and not the actual shows. Fuck this shit then.

Appleseed: Ex Machina from Warner USA. Shit discs though, no Japanese language track nor uncompressed/lossless audio.

Some are saying that they've done this to prevent the japanese from importing the cheaper american version.

Way to go, Warner.

*Region codings updated*
*removed all references to Blu-Ray following the demise of HD-DVD. Unless otherwise noted, all HD titles in the list are Blu-Ray*

Does anyone have this nagging feeling that the bottom could fall out of Asian film fandom in the west if one of these HD formats find the level of success that DVD did? It just seems to me the releases are being driven purely by studio greed and they're getting less and less compatible with the needs of purists. Already we have seen asian HD releases remove english subs as standard and now the american distributors are moving further towards dubbing only.

Thanks Tom. If Flashpoint works in UK PS3s then it must be Region Free.

There aren't many examples of dubbing only are there? There will always annoyingly be cases but film studios know there is still a big market who wants the original language. I could well believe what Tom says, hopefully an independent will release them with Japanese and English subs.

I do see Mono/Stereo being used less and less on HD Discs though. I definitely see that happening.

I wonder how it stacks up against the USA HD-DVD. They look similar on paper.

I may pick this one up at some point, especially now it's out on BD. I've no interest in Initial D though.

Shinobi will be released on May 13.

Personally I'm in no rush to upgrade.
The french DVD has the best subtitles I've ever seen on any disc.

I wonder what the BD will look like, though.
Every tranfer I've seen so far looks too soft.

"Special features are also yet to be announced, but expect similar offerings as found on the current DVD"

So bugger all then...?

I hope we see some of the martial classics. Beyond the Yellow Line is pants, frankly.
