Brad i'm not interested in sermons from the resident b&b hd expert who has never played a fucking hd disc in his life. i have well over 100 discs on both formats so i have no need to be pedantic ,i can make a judgement on what i think looks better with the evidence of my own eyes thanks.at least Gasteropod actualy plays hd discs.! from your extensive knowledge of reading about hd on the internet can you counter my examples with 6 of BD looking better than the HD-DVD.?how would you know what Warner have proven?played their discs or read about them?

The only Panasonic that's available in France is the BD10, which is really old.Brad wrote:Why not a Panasonic? That model is only Profile 1.0 and offers no TrueHD or DTS-HD support. The BDP-S500 adds TrueHD/DTS-HD but it too is still only Profile 1.0.
Couldn't care less about profiles or HD audio. I don't want no PiP commentaries or shitty downloadable content.
And it's not like I could tell the difference between a good old Dolby 5.1 track and TrueHD anyway.
Just give me a good picture. You can keep the extras and the lossless sound.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

That was harsh. Your point was completely illogical. It doesn't take an expert to work that one out. When I do get a HD Player you can guarantee it will be worth the wait and trump what you own. There is no weakness in waiting.saltysam wrote:Brad i'm not interested in sermons from the resident b&b hd expert who has never played a fucking hd disc in his life.
I was talking generally (you knew that) about the technical aspects of BD vs. HD-DVD. You were talking specifics. That's quite different, you know that too.
Why are we even arguing? We weren't even talking about the same thing.
Who happened to agree with what I said.saltysam wrote:at least Gasteropod actualy plays hd discs.
Agreed.Markgway wrote:The region coding alone was enough for me to want HD to win... but we'll all have to live with Blu-Ray. That's just the way it goes.
The truth is that could take a very long time, maybe not but it's likely it will.Markgway wrote:I'm hanging off for a multi-region (or at least A/B) player to come along.
I may not own a Player but I can assure you I have done as much research into this as Salty and the like.
Agreed. That's always been one of my problems with them too.Markgway wrote:PS3 are ugly chunky bastards.
If you just want BD the Panasonic DMP-BD50 is your friend.Markgway wrote:I'd like something that plays proper and has the look of a Samsung.
I hear Panasonics work wonderfully and the DMP-BD50 will be Profile 2.0 too (something the PS3 cannot manage). It will also offer TrueHD and DTS-HD to future proof you (again something the PS3 can only half manage). So even if you don't care about Lossless audio (something I can understand DD5.1 sounds ace) at least you have it ready.
The only reason the PS3 is so popular is because it's A: A Games Console, B: Got stacks of marketing (how many BD Players ever have?) and C: Got off early with decent hardware. Many other BD Players are now starting to easily trump it.
Even Panasonic's DMP-BD30 (which is out now and costs roughly the same as the PS3) trumps it too. Here is a Region A DMP-BD30 (it's the same as the DMP-BD50 but is Profile 1.1 instead and drops the analogue outputs):

Except they're not. They're one of the most reliable but it's no longer a single player market.saltysam wrote:you forgot to add "but are the the most reliable BD players available"
Surely the new Panasonic models are coming too? I'm surprised you'd want a Profile 1.0 machine. Can't you import? After all that expensive I'd want Profile 1.1 minimum.tom2681 wrote:The only Panasonic that's available in France is the BD10, which is really old.
Fair enough but wouldn't you want a newer player that was more future proof? I'm wager a Profile 2.0 machine is more future proof by it's nature than a Profile 1.0 one. That uses old hardware.tom2681 wrote:Couldn't care less about profiles or HD audio. I don't want no PiP commentaries or shitty downloadable content.
I'd also like the option of watching a PIP commentary, speaking personally. Like I listen to DVD commentaries today. Don't you listen to commentaries any more? Many BDs have a PIP commentary instead of the regular commentary.
Disney have already stated they'll be releasing some Profile 2.0 BDs later in the year. I think Sleeping Beauty and Finding Nemo are two of them.
Have you compared them? If so fair enough.tom2681 wrote:And it's not like I could tell the difference between a good old Dolby 5.1 track and TrueHD anyway.
Coming from someone whose never heard Lossless Audio. I am at least willing to accept "it could sound better".saltysam wrote:I totally agree with that 8)
Even Cooey over at Import Forum now agrees he was wrong about Lossless Audio. He too was just like you about it and actively ignored it but now he can play it back he loves it.
You'll never know if you buy a Player now that cannot handle them. It made sense 6 months ago but today Full Lossless Audio is finally possible so why ignore it?

I researched this the other day, turns out that the PS3 is Profile 2.0 ready.
You probably won't see likely that feature added in the firmware for a while, because they'd probably want to iron out the bugs in the stand alone players. Don't want a games machine raining on the parade of an expensive dedicated player just yet. Ah, politics suck.

what a pathetic comment.big deal.i'd expect a comment like that from a ten year old.playground stuff lol "my dad's bigger than your dad" syndrome or an inferiority complex, who knows which.?bradavon wrote:When I do get a HD Player you can guarantee it will be worth the wait and trump what you own. .
so? my point is he can comment, whether he agrees with me or not,he plays the discs, you don't. until you trump us all i'd keep quiet.bradavon wrote:Who happened to agree with what I said..
from your extensive internet research name a more reliable one then.bradavon wrote:Except they're not. They're one of the most reliable but it's no longer a single player market.:
i've told you i don't give a flying fuck about audio.on a scale of importance i rank it slightly above watching Blade Runner again before i sell it.bradavon wrote:Coming from someone whose never heard Lossless Audio. I am at least willing to accept "it could sound better".?

@Brad:
Sure, profile 1.1 or 2.0 is better than profile 1.0.
Sure, lossless audio probably sounds better than DDPlus or DTS.
But you have to take the price into account.
1.0 players are considerably cheaper than their 1.1 counterparts.
I can find a Sony S300 player for 330€.
Am I willing to spend 150€ more to get some PiP extras and interactive content? Hell no.

You're the one who "every time" I post info about Combo Players have a dig, not I. It gets boring.saltysam wrote:what a pathetic comment.big deal.i'd expect a comment like that from a ten year old.playground stuff lol "my dad's bigger than your dad" syndrome or an inferiority complex, who knows which.?
You said the PS3 was the most reliable. I said you're wrong, that doesn't mean I was saying there are more reliable players, just that PS3 doesn't stand alone.saltysam wrote:from your extensive internet research name a more reliable one then.
Really? Fair enough than. I wonder why Sony are being so slow on DTS-HD though???EvaUnit02 wrote:I researched this the other day, turns out that the PS3 is Profile 2.0 ready.
I'd still buy a Panasonic BD50 instead
My point was more that a Profile 1.1 and Profile 2.0 Player is likely to be more reliable and future proof playing discs at all than playing extras.tom2681 wrote:@Brad:

Great stuff. Bring on the re-releases!
We need an official statement from Universal too.

can you not see the irony in appointing yourself as some sort of HD expert when you don't even have HD? it's like me telling jack nicholson how to act. what is boring has been the last months wittering about you and your combo so if i'm boring that makes 2 of us. i admit to knowing very little about HD but at least i can speak from experience which you plainly cannot.anyway enough of this shit it is boring now. i've never understood really why you've pissed so many members off in the past Brad, i can now though, add me to the list.bradavon wrote: You're the one who "every time" I post info about Combo Players have a dig, not I. I never said I was an HD expert, far from it.
But I have done as much (if not more) research into it than you. The only thing I cannot vouch for is how good HD looks on a TV screen. I don't believe I have ever implied I can. That's all relative anyway as a 6 months/1 year from now it won't mean much.
I've been updating the Combo thread first and foremost for me, secondary is everyone else. If you're not interested, don't read it. Hung seems to get on just fine with his Exploitation thread that only he posts in
I guess I can be too direct and confrontational. It's hardly like I'm alone though, Romero, Mark and Eva can be just as annoying at times. As can many others.
It's what happens when you have a free for all with no moderation at all. Other forums the mods would've stepped in and stopped many flame wars that happen here but then that wouldn't be what forum members would want, at least not what I always thought they wanted.
I wouldn't care so much if my posts weren't actively picked out (it seems) but when others do or say the exact same thing those members who picked on my comments ignore them.
Anyway like you say it's not worth it, moving on.

So? You put way to much importance on it. Having seen HD has very little to do with disc compatibility, Profiles or Audio specifications.but at least i can speak from experience which you plainly cannot.
