I noticed that too. It pisses me off too and it isn't exactly hard to remember. You're told once Chinese names are spelt surname first and you remember it. It's particularly dumb when all versions of Crouching Tiger called it the Chinese way. She was unknown then, but still.
I understand she prefers it/is happy to spell the Western way when in the West but no doubt she says that to please prospective job offers.
I've only had a quick listen as I've not seen the film yet but my Dog Bite Dog commentary doesn't go out of sync. It's scene specific too. I checked a few chapters at the start and the last 3 chapters. You could quickly tell all were n sync, as they were talking about things happening on screen.
That other guy (I forget who posted) must have had a duff DVD. Edison Chen has a really annoying American accent!
The AV is excellent btw (great 5.1 tracks). I've not seen a DD DVD before. Their DD logo sucks compared to the classic HKL one. All the audio tracks are listed as English (including the Cantonese ones), not that it matters of course.
I've had the HK DVD since it was released (the cheap one with the LE book) but so far haven't felt inclined to watch it, which is unusual as I usually cannot wait to see a Zhang Ziyi film.
Found it unbelievably boring.
Think of it as "Curse of the Golden Flower in slow-motion".
Try it when your sleeping pills don't work.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
I thought it was more like:
Jung (as in "jungle") Dzee-Yee.

The Mandarin accent is tricky and it could very well be that my 'Jong' and your 'Jung' are virtually the same sounding. Maybe 'Jung' is a better romanization? I won't argue. Even 'Jang' is close enough if you say it with an accent. We can agree that it definately ain't 'zzz'
I would hazard a guess that your 'dz' sound and my 'tz' are interchangeable. The emphasis is on the 'zih' or 'zuh' sound. I don't think an 'ee' sound is correct despite the 'i' spelling.
I believe that the 'y' in 'yi' is silent (or at least extremely feint). A soft 'y' would be OK. It's why in the old Wade-Giles system Yi was written as I.
Regardless of how it's technically supposed to be said, does anyone "hear" Jung as in Jungle when you hear her name said? I sure don't. Unless people keep saying it wrong.
@Brad:
Maggie Cheung is pronounced Maggie Jung (as in "jungle").
And since Zhang is the mandarin spelling of Cheung, I thought that might be right.
