i haven't seen the theatrical-only the workprint and the unrated director's cut. haven't watched disc 2 yet which has an alternate ending (maybe the workprint one) and deleted scenes that may be interesting. i preferred the unrated to the workprint.bradavon wrote:What Halloween (2007) is considered the best cut? -
Theatrical
Work print
Unrated - Presumably labelled the Director's Cut

alternate ending. i preferred the unrated because it had a better ending, also the workprint while good quality was obviously unfinished, music missing etc. it's not a great movie in any version i suspect.bradavon wrote:Does disc 2 has an alternate ending or an alternate cut?
Thanks for the info. Why did you prefer the Unrated cut?

Tell No One: 4/5
A solid, intriguing French thriller. Good stuff

I'd read that too. My mate and I sat quite near the front, because I didn't want the screen looking small. He kept getting dizzy and had a headache by the end of it, but I had no problem whatsoever. Maybe because I have a large HDTV in my bedroom so I'm used to it?Markgway wrote:Apparently it's made a lot of people in the front rows nauseous, so sit well back.

hey,
Girl-Gang 1.5/5
Age old story of girls without guidance getting into prostitution and yes, it doesn't bring anything new to the table. Low budget as hell although a minute or two manages to be effectively bleak thanks to the crap looking surroundings. Watch Spacked Out instead...again.
The Setting Sun 1/5
Apparently a bug budget attempt for Japan's Nikkatsu studio to enter the market again. With an international cast (Diane Lane, Donald Sutherland and Hong Kong's Yuen Biao) and Rou Tomono directing his own book, it all sinks like a stone in an unbearable 2 hours of hell (Japanese cut apparently runs an additional 30 minutes). Completely lacking of interest when dealing with the opium war during the 30s and 40s and characters struggling with their alliance, coherence and viewer engagement is early on gone. To boot, Yuen Biao is horribly miscast as a Shanghai gangster boss.
Wai's Romance 1.5/5
This sex-comedy gets an additional half point for the casting of Charlie Cho. Reason being he's cast against type for once, playing very timid and being a virgin too! Otherwise a flick with a full plate but the inability to translate that into fun.
Madam The Great (aka The Way Of The Lady Boxers) 1.5/5
Sharon yeung and Sibelle Hu teamed up but it all works only in sporadic bursts. During those moments playing out favourably in the stunts department (Sharon gets in on some), at others being rather stiff and featuring wire-fu in this setting actually is a bad fit. Joseph Lai's IFD released the film as Angel Kickboxers.
Little Hero 4/5
Best for last, here's Taiwan madness at its best. Let the clip speak for itself.

Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World (Japan, 2004) – 1,5/5
I recall Isao Yukisada’s earlier film, A Day on the Planet, being quite good, which unfortunately isn’t the case with Sekai no chushin de, ai wo sakebu. It features a couple of nice landscape shots and a cool Sano Motoharu song, but that’s pretty much it. The film tries very hard to be emotional but that only makes it harder to emphatize with. The screenplay has an okay start, if you ignore the first 10 minutes, but the second half makes you constantly wonder what were they thinking? Still, Sekai no chushin de wouldn’t be an especially bad film - in fact it would be just like all the others – if it wasn’t so exhaustingly overlong.
Ardor (South Korea, 2002) – 1/5
If you’d like to see the beautiful Lost star Yunjin Kim in a Korean movie, I recommend you give up on the idea. She’s in the terrible Korean Bruckheimer equivalent Shiri, downright worthless sci-fi pic Yesterday, and in the “daring” drama Ardor (aka Milae). At first I was confused about her acting in this movie, but then I realized she’s just trying a world record on overdoing the “depressed woman” act. The rest of the cast give more subdued bad performances. The screenplay is what it is, and the director’s decision to colour some images ugly red serves no purpose.

I have a feeling our mod doesn't know how to use the search engine (:D). If you just write "Kairo" in the search field, then it's hopeless. But, if you do it like this:bradavon wrote:Thanks.
Ordinarily I would but the "Marks out of 5" thread is so huge and the Search function so shit it would take forever.
Search for Keywords: Kairo
Search for Author: HungFist
Forum: Reviews & Comparisons
Display results as: Posts
...you get the exact results.
