I haven't seen any of the nominated films so I don't really care right now....

Surprised the Take That song from Stardust - Rule the World - (which was a big hit in the UK at least) didn't get a nomination for Best Song -- and yet THREE songs from Enchanted did. Politics??

No idea, cause I've hardly seen any of the movies, if any... but I just hope Depp will win his much-deserved Oscar for his role in the supposedly great Sweeney Todd...

I've not seen any of the Best Film nominees but want to see a few of them.

I cannot believe Angelina Jolie hasn't been nominated for Best Actress. She was outstanding in A Mighty Heart (which should also be nominated for Best Director).

:D . You are joking right?

I hear No Country for Old Men and There will be Blood are excellent. I'll be seeing NCFOM tonight. I'm not normally a Coen Brothers fan but Javier Bardem is a fantastic actor.

I'm a big P.T. Anderson fan so will definitely be seeing There will be Blood. I'm hearing it's likely Daniel Day-Lewis will win Best Actor for that one.

I hear he's great. The Oscars don't normally take musicals too seriously though. I cannot believe he was nominated for Pirates, what a joke. I suspect Daniel Day-Lewis will beat him.

Because it's a bloody British pop son from a band the American people have never heard of. The idea it would be nominated for an Oscar is just laughable.

Why would the people behind the Oscars pay any attention to the UK music charts?

Chicago? Moulin Rouge?

I CAN believe Depp was nominated for Pirates, as he's the absolute best thing in the movie, which was his own creation, and he has given the world a very memorable movie-character for generations to come.

Am I the only one who has never really been impressed with DDLewis? People raved about his acting in Gangs of NY, but to me that was nothing special and a bit OTT...!?

edit: Ow yeah, 68Monkey, could you please make all of the nominees Italic or Bold, cause that would certainly increase the readability of that opening post.

Was Moulin Rouge nominated? I'll give you Chicago.

True but it was still very overrated, as was the entire film.

He was very good in "In the Name of the Father" and Gangs of New York. The problem with GONY certainly wasn't DDL but the stupid ham fisted romance and weak script.

He's a fantastic actor, arguably the greatest of his generation. Gangs is not the film to judge his acting ability by.

Julie Christie is excellent “Away from Her”. I don't think the film worked completely but she was very good in it. Gordon Pinsent was also very good too.

The song was from Stardust - a US-UK co-production that starred Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was released in American theatres thus making it eligible for any Oscar nominations. Every year they struggle to find a half decent song to nominate never mind five of them - as eveidenced by much of the rubbish that has won in the past. What was that garbage from last year? Regardless of any UK chart success Rule the World is a nice song and it seems strange that it would be overlooked whilst three songs get nominated from one movie. A similar thing happened years ago when REM didn't get a nomination for their song from the film Man in the Moon, yet at the same time it was obvious the academy were struggling to fill the category. Must be politics.

Was the song even released in America? I doubt it. Enough said.

Why did you bother? If it was too hard for Brad to read then he should've formatted it himself.

:D Classic and people say I talk bollocks.

You do realise it's an American film award show right? American being the important word here. I doubt most Americans even know who Take That are.

Brad AGAIN displaying shocking ignorance.

As long as the song is an original FROM said film that's all it needs to be nominated.

Are you saying that Take That could only be nominated if they're big in America?

A ridiculous suggestion.
