OMG I'm just watching it too. He was so good in Brokeback Mountain and Monster's Ball. Who'd have thought his last role would be Batman 2. It's going to be really eerie to watch that knowing only a few months earlier he was alive but is now dead.
It's rumoured to be drugs but not confirmed. More here:

Aged only 28.

Just like Brandon lee, he says his theatre-public a premature goodbye with a grin on his face...
Batman wins...
I havent seen Monster's Ball or Brokeback Mountain yet. MB I havent sene yet cause I dislike both Halle Berry and Billy Bob, and BM because the movie sounds boring as hell, and I am not that fond of Heath as an actor, from what very little I have seen of him...

According to the NY Post it could've been suicide:
Both Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain outstanding. Halle Berry is fantastic in Monster's Ball. Prior to Brokeback I didn't think hugely of Heathe Ledger (his part was quite small in Monster's Ball) but he was very good in that. His apartment was strewn with sleeping pills and it was unclear if it was an intentional or accidental death.

Yeah, I was already thinking it could have been suicide. Ordering the masseuse to find him would have been a sign, plus he isnt known to be a druggie...bradavon wrote:According to the NY Post it could've been suicide:Both Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain outstanding. Probably depressed about his failed relationship etc... or who knows!? Depression is an illness that can hit anyone at any time...

Thats really shocking news. I always thought he was a great actor right from when I first saw him in 10 Things I Hate About You...
Its a real shame. I guess The Dark Knight will be a good way to remember him...
I'm really sad about this.

Filming on The Dark Knight has already finished. Its in post production now.
I think Heath's performance as The Joker was already going to be legendary but now that this has happened it will definitely go down in movie-making history.
I really do think we're in for something special with The Dark Knight.

I have no idea what the movie, or his performance, are going to be like.
As I've said before, I dont like the way he looks, with the dripping messed up face etc. I prefer a Joker with the pigment totally sucked out of his skin (like Michael Jackson), and it just looks way too far-fetched, this design.
Also not sure about how he will portray it. We'll just have to wait and see. I do think people are gonna be hesitant to say he sucked in the role, since he's dead now...

Lets keep talk of Batman to the Batman thread, don't you think?Yi-Long wrote:I have no idea what the movie, or his performance, are going to be like.

Weren't you the first one to bring up Batman 2 in this thread?bradavon wrote:Lets keep talk of Batman to the Batman thread, don't you think?Yi-Long wrote:I have no idea what the movie, or his performance, are going to be like.

Plus I dont see why we cant mention the movie or his role in that movie, in this thread as well, IF we feel the need to do so AT THIS MOMENT, considering the news. Otherwise you will have 2 different threads about the same issues at the same time ...
In other words, lighten up on the 'wrong thread!!!' thingy

I'm sorry brad, but it is frankly utterly ridiculous to ask the members of these board not to touch on the subject of Batman 2 in this thread, it was/would've been arguably Ledger's most important and most iconic film role to date, and the fact he only finished filing means naturally questions about the films production and it being his "swansong" are intrinsically bound to his death as far as film fans go.
I must admit i'm very shocked by the news, and hope his performance as the Joker proves to be a fitting swansong to what was proving to be an increasingly varied and talented acting career. RIP Heath Ledger.

Isn't it ironic how people are hesitant to criticise a dead person who couldn't care less about their criticism. But have no problem giving all the most negative critique to living persons with feelings and emotions?Yi-Long wrote:I do think people are gonna be hesitant to say he sucked in the role, since he's dead now...

His appearance and performance were both lovely in Casanova.
Very sad to die so young.

like Shingster says, it's impossible to have this thread and not being able to mention or talk about his last rolebradavon wrote:You miss my point
I mentioned it (as did others) in passing but you started to debate Batman the film which is quite different 8)
Anyway back on topic![]()
Plus it shouldnt be a huge deal anyway.
Yeah, the people came out in numbers and really showed they care (!)p.s - I love the closed poll on your blog, a whopping 5 votes

Some on another (dutch) forum were acting like he was a great fantastic actor, and I just mentioned I wasnt THAT impressed with his acting, and felt Gyllenhaal for instance is a way more talented actor.
Ofcourse I had already paid my respects etc to Heath in earlier posts.
But somehow, when someone is dead and you respond to people that say he was FANTASTIC with your honest own opinion, that's considered to be disrespectful (!)
Yeah, I dont get that and I dont agree with that. A big loss ofcourse, but let's be honest, the guy wasnt a Johnny Depp or a Clooney or whatever. Just a good actor.

Sounds like suicide to me. It's very rare for someone to accidentally die from a perscription overdose. He must've been depressed having broke up with his wife last year. Regardless the cause and reasons it's a very tragic event. I feel truly sorry for the man and his family. RIP.died of an overdose of prescription pills.
