Groundhog Day: 15th AE: R1 - 29/1

Post by grim_tales »

The extras on the "AE" of this classic appear to be the same as the "CE" I have, not sure if its worth an upgrade:

Bill Murray plays Phil, a TV weatherman working for a local station in Pennsylvania but convinced that national news stardom is in his grasp. Phil displays a charm and wit on camera that evaporates the moment the red light goes off; he is bitter, appallingly self-centered, and treats his co-workers with contempt, especially his producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) and cameraman Larry (Chris Elliot). On February 2, 1992, Phil, Rita, and Larry are sent on an assignment that Phil especially loathes: the annual Groundhog Day festivities in Punxsutawney, PA, where the citizens await the appearance of Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who will supposedly determine the length of winter by his ability to see his own shadow. Phil is eager to beat a hasty retreat, but when a freak snowstorm strands him in Punxsutawney, he wakes up the next morning with the strangest sense of d¨¦j¨¤ vu: he seems to be living the same day over again. The next morning it happens again, and then again. Soon, no matter what he does, he's stuck in February 2, 1992; not imprisonment nor attempted suicide nor kidnapping the groundhog gets him out of the loop. But the more Phil relives the same day, the more he's forced to look at other people's lives, and something unusual happens: he begins to care about others. He starts to respect people, he tries to save the life of a homeless man, and he discovers that he's falling in love with Rita and therefore wants to be someone that she could love in return.

Special Features:

* Audio Commentary with Director Harold Ramis
* A Different Day: An Interview with Harold Ramis
* The Study of Groundhogs: A Real Life Look at Marmots
* The Weight of Time Documentary
* Deleted Scenes

Obviously its NOT worth an upgrade, you can get the CE version for a pound (brand new which I paid), so only a fool would buy this version.

Does it matter if you have it?

It was free from CDWOW a few months back with voucher combos, so its not hard to beat my price even.

I never put my old dvd on, but all I want is the film the limited extras aint exacytly gonna sell another version to me.

I'm still amazed anyone managed to get a "free" DVD out of CD WOW. Money off is one thing but free???

How someone is a fool when you got it using vouchers that presumably can no longer be done? ;)

What I mean Romero is I already have the CE so I'm not buying the CE again for £1. If you got it for £1, good for you :)

Why is this film loved so much? It's so average. It's up there with Shawshank Redemption in overrated stakes (although that is much better). I don't get it.

So you never tried the free thing then I take it, hey it was worth a try and it works, so I have done it :D not many times mine you as rare titles let you do it, but once in a while :)

and all the vouchers are working for me still, tried them last night, some people are having troubles, they have been for a week or so, some are not. But they are shutting all vouchers down sad to say, so its the end for em soon anyway :(

The film
Overated? maybe, but many films are. I love GHD for what it is, stupid fun, it is getting old now mind you. Bill does not star in many great films, but this is a lovely film and I may not have seen it for a while, but it is great. If Bill never started in it, it would be no classcic.

I've never come across a DVD that was free on CD WOW, after discounts they're always at least 50p for me.

All vouchers work for me too. The amount off with the USD link isn't half as good as it once was though.

I don't want any of them :D
GHD is a classic, Bill Murray is superb in it, how can you not like it? On paper it may be a one joke film, but under Harold Ramis its clever and witty.

The movie was on TV this week here in Holland, and I just keep enjoying the movie tremendously every time I watch it. It's a classic and I love it.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
