Seoul Raiders (Hong Kong, 2005) – 1,5/5
Another good example of a movie that doesn’t have a reason to exist. Uninspired is the key word. Tony Leung Chiu Wai is enjoying his South Korean holiday, and Shu Qi reminds us of how bad she can be when working with the wrong people. Not a good movie. Not even with the glorious 2 second schoolgirl shot.

The Master (Hong Kong, 1989) – 3/5
Another filming vacation, this time courtesy of Tsui Hark. Jet Li and Yuen Wah star in this enjoyable L.A. flick loaded with good humour, decent music and stylish, zero wire-work action scenes. The main villain looks like Michael Douglas in martial arts mode. Good stuff. There’s even a cool sequence with Jet Li running around the city and chasing the latins who stole his luggage.

Saw IV unrated blu-ray 2/5

I quite like this series but it's definitely reached the end with this effort. thrown together like direct to video release the film is very gory but is right out of ideas. it made money so there'll be another one,it should go off in a different direction imo.

Triangle (2007 - Tsui Hark / Ringo Lam / Johnnie To): 2 / 5

Does... not... work.
The plot, the continuity, the editing, the acting... it's all wrong.

The Tsui Hark segment lacks personality. You really can't recognize his style.
Ringo Lam then tries to develop the characters but fails miserably. His segment is just a cheap Victim rip-off.
And then there's Johnnie To. Poor Johnnie knew that this film was going to suck no matter what, so he called Lam Suet, gave him some drugs and put him in the film.

You can really tell that To doesn't give a shit about anything. Everything that happens in the last 30 minutes happens by accident. Sun Hong-Lei says it's "fate", but I think that "fate" is chinese for "crappy plot".
I have to admit that, although none of it makes any sense, the third segment is more fun than the other two (in the same way that getting shot in the leg is more fun than being stabbed in the eye).

Watchable, but not good.
Definitely below average.

Van Damme is good, better than the movie as a whole in fact. The gritty style worked for a while, but eventually the script loses its way and struggles to reach its contrived conclusion.

I believe there are TWO endings to this film.

In the one I saw referred to as "the UK version" Van Damme dies from gunshots and film closes with his wife and daughter(?) visiting his tombstone Anyone know what the USA ending was?

Taiwan madness during its opening reel, detailing the life of amazon women with anti-men views on life. They have a big statue of their supreme goddess, Elsa Yeung looking like a dominatrix throughout and quite awful concepts such as the women discarding all male babies but the director takes this stuff way too seriously. Camp would've been the answer. Give it to Chu Yen-ping!

Yet another Mainland refugees turn into gangsters-tale but quite uncomfortably amateurish.

Raining Night's Killer 1/5

By the end we realize there is an arc to this murder mystery that could've been made felt. This time it's crud however and the incomprehensible narrative by choice frustrates as we don't get any rewards in return.

Possessed II 4/5

Fucking right on! Straight Hong Kong horror that manages to be camp, scary and flash some creative low-budget solutions. Especially the finale is jaw-dropping stuff.

I quite liked this film. Nice tits in it, and quite gory. Sickly scary but I did like it.

Heroes Shed No Tears 3.5/5

Another film where the good guys have bullets swerve around them (except when they are due to die) and the bad guys can't shoot to save themselves. A plot so thin it makes wafers seem thick, but lots of bullets and quite a bit of blood too.

Happy End 3/5

Not bad Korean drama about a love triangle involving a married woman and her husband. Slow moving and builds up to an unexpected latter part, in that I didn't think the husband would do waht he did. Decent fiml.

My Boss, My Hero 2.5/5

Fight Back To School, Korean style. Except this time it is a gangster going to school not a cop. A few comical moments, but little else of noteworthyness. Not bad, but not that good.

Kairo (Japan, 2001) – 1,5/5
Time to give up on Kurosawa’s ghost movies. Kairo is hardly better than the rest of the recent Japanese genre production. Visually it's pleasing, but every attempt to create something even remotely scary fails miserably. The use of audio is especially embarrassing. A couple of nice moments and ideas, such as themes of loneliness, have found their way into the movie, but are effectively butchered in the director’s hands. Maybe if the scrip didn’t feature a single super-natural element Kurosawa might be able to deliver a good film.

Heroes Shed No Tears (Hong Kong, 1984/1986) – 4/5
John Woo’s Vietnam film manages to be both a lot fun and a more impressive as a war movie that 10 Private Ryans put together. There’s something touching about Woo’s old fashioned (male) hero myths. Yet the film has everything a good Vietnam adventure needs; lots of violent gunplay, a crazy village leader with gambling addiction, pretty jungle girls, sadistic villain (Lam Ching Ying) and some pot smoking. The music and cinematography are impressive, and Eddy Ko is the embodiment of a John Woo hero.

Entourage Season 3, Parts 1 and 2 (5 out of 5)

This show has really come to full maturity in its third season. It's just so entertaining and well done. In the first season, the characters were a bit vacant, having a good time scoring with hot women and not much else. In season 3, the characters are completely fleshed out and show all of their flaws and complexities. Mind you, it's still a sit-com, but it's one of the best sit-coms I've ever seen. :mrgreen: Hollywood politics and wheeling and dealing come to the forefront in this season. Now that Vince is a major movie star, the stakes have risen, and doing "serious" films becomes more and more difficult. But don't worry, Johnny Drama and Turtle are still around to keep things from getting too weighty.

Best episode this season? For me it would have to be "Manic Monday." Ari shows he has a conscience after all (something he'll work to smother in the next episode).

Watched 2 movies this weekend.

Flash Point
Quite a nice movie, slick direction, nice sounds, OK acting, hot-as-hell babe in it, and some nice action. Yet I dont know if it will have as much replay value as SPL or other classics in the genre.
I give it a 3.5/5 for now. Cause the first hour orso was pretty basic cop-movie stuff.

Bin Jip/3 Iron
Guy breaks into houses, and comes across a beaten up woman. Together they find houses to live in for a night or a few nights.
Almost no dialogue, but it's a wonderfull sweet movie. Surprising at times, great pacing (especially with the no dialogue considered), and just sweet sweet sweet.
I loved it.
4.5 outta 5.

I wouldnt say it doesnt match SPL. They're 2 pretty different movies, as far as I'm concerned.
It is definately worth a watch, cause it's by no means a bad movie. It's a pretty good movie. It's main problem is just the fact that the first hour orso is pretty good but nothing really special.
