Future Cops - HK version of Street Fighter II (sort of)

To avoid a sueing, I think the filmmakers made a SFII movie without keeping the original names. For example, Sagat is known as "Thai King" and Ken is known as "Kent"

Like the Hollywood version, the storyline has absolutely nothing to do with the video games. However unlike the Hollywood version, this is an OTT comedy that doesn't take itself seriously. As a result, the film has some really funny moments. The fights and effects are cheap but have a nice comic feel to it.

I liked it, found myself laughing out loud a lot. Some of the game's villians are heros in this film (and vice versa).

I'm going to have to check out more Wong Jing films - I loved both City Hunter and My Schoolmate the Barbarian.

Most of the characters made it, apart from Zangief and Balrog. They all have their special powers - yoga fire, sonic boom, hadokens etc..etc...

Yeah it's pretty cool.

LOL this looks funny but also very bad (look at Blanka). Will I be bothering er no.

This sounds very much like a Wong Jing film. I'd have gone for "Pavement Fighter"

What DVD is on Bisc? As Brad said this looks very bad (but in a funny way)

Is Chun Li played by Chingamy Yau? Looks like her.

Did they get permission from the SFII makers to do the spoof bit in City Hunter, as JC/Gary Daniels look *almost* like the SFII characters

The opening 5 minutes will have you laughing so much, it hurts. I'm still recovering. How the filmmakers haven't been sued yet is beyond me.

I just LOVE this movie !

HK comedies rarely get crazier than this.

My only problem with the film is the presence (although limited) of Aaron Kwok.
I think his character was really unnecessary.

Yeah I agree with that 100%, it's probably the only thing letting this film down.

Stephen Chow's early films come pretty close:
-Flirting Scholar.
-From Beijing With Love.
-Love on Delivery.
-Mad Monk.
-Chinese Odyssey.

Wong Jing's Evil Cult and Last Hero In China (Claws of Steel) aren't too bad in the "nonsensical comedy genre".

Chu Yin-Ping's Butterfly and Sword is also completely crazy.
So is Flying Dagger by the same director.

While we're talking about crazy comedies, I just watched Wai Ka-Fai's Fantasia for the eleventh time and I still can't stop laughing.

What character did he play?

"Evil Cult and Last Hero In China" are they any good as Jet Li films? I have LHIC but haven't seen it yet. I believe the UK (they're anamorphic) DVDs are the way to go or is there now HK remastered versions which "may" be better?

I hear "Evil Cult" is let down by not having a proper ending? (i.e - A sequel was planned but never made).

You NEED to be able to like Wong Jing films if you're gonna watch EC and LHIC.

Evil Cult is the first part of a two-parter that was never finished.
But it doesn't matter because the ending fight is good enough to make you feel like the storyline can be closed.

It's just like in Swordsman 1 : At the end of the film Jackie Cheung (the bad guy) grabs the Prized Sunflower Volume and escapes. Now our heroes have to follow him and get the book back. . Still, Swordsman wasn't let down by the ending.

For he who likes wire-fu and crazy comedy (à la Taï-Chi Master, only crazier), yes.
For he who prefers OUATIC 1-3, Fist of Legend and the more grounded martial arts movies, no.

I seem to remember an awful UK edition of Evil Cult with the worst subtitles EVER made for a film.

I can't really help you there because I have the french HK Vidéo editions of those movies (16/9, Cantonese Mono, French subs, etc...) :king:

I think there's a Mei Ah remaster of Evil Cult (called Kung-Fu Cult Master).
All I know about the UK edition of Claws of Steel is that it has awful subtitles.

Yes, and it wasn't cheap. I guess Wong Jing felt he had more to say on the matter and so produced an unofficial version in Future Cops. Not my cup of tea.

I like wire-fu. I already own LHIC so no going back on that one

I've yet to see Tai Chi Master as my DVD is so bad quality but I didn't know it was comical?

They look okay to me. I've only sampled the DVD though. Is that it's original title?

No, Claws of Steel is the English Dub title. The original Chinese title is Last Hero in China.

The original title of The Evil Cult is Kung Fu Cult Master.

I've always known this movie as "Les Griffes d'Acier = Claws of Steel" or "Wong Fei-Hung's Iron Rooster vs the Centipede".

I'm not used to calling it "Last Hero in China".

FYI: "Evil Cult" or "Kung-Fu Cult Master" is also known as "Red Cult" and "Lord of the Wu Tang".

It's getting more confusing, isn't it ? :twisted:
