AFAIK, the deleted scenes have been destroyed.
They're unlikely to release an uncut version anytime soon.

Bichunmoo is missing one critical scene in which the main character changes his name and joins some sort of rebel army. All of a sudden, you see him interacting with characters you don't even know and you feel like your DVD-Player has skipped a chapter.

To be fair, the film works just fine without that scene. The transition is a bit awkward, that's all.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Thanks Tom, yeah - PA can't really be blamed for what happened with Bichunmoo, change the record Yi ;)
That list of DD releases doesnt say for sure they wont release FOL, just that it has no release yet.

Hmmm... guess I wont see it then, unless it's shown on TV and I'm bored.
I dont wanna watch enforced cut movies.

The fact that one film was cut, never mind 20, is bad. I mean, the unlucky film could be the one you really care about

"Change the record Yi" !?
"CHANGE THE RECORD YI" !?!?!?

WTF!? Grim's been infected by Brad-disease or what!?

I didnt say that cut was PA's fault. I just said it was cut and therefore I'm not really interested in watching it, let alone buying it.

And why would DD be keeping quiet over Fist of Legend, one of the most wanted releases among asian cinema fans for the last ... whenever DVD started! I doubt it will be released within 6 months, or even within a year.
TBH, they should now just release it on Blu-Ray or HDDVD, so it wont be obsolete when it does finally come out, but everyone has already moved on to HD home-cinema...

When I watched "Bichunmoo" for the first time, I didn't know it was cut and it worked just fine for me. And Tom is right, the deleted scenes are destroyed.

It appears some people on these boards need to learn the difference between a distributor cutting a film themselves and purchasing the shortened international prints that have already been prepared by the studios.

By some, I bet you mean ME, but fact is that distributors forced cuts upon a movie which werent the director's intended cut, and those cuts resulted in a movie that's less good than it should be.

People who had absolutely nothing to do with the creation and production of a movie (or any other piece of art), shouldnt be allow to cut it. Simple. It's not their movie, they didnt make it, they arent the ones who are gonna buy the dvd, etc. They have no (moral) right to do that.

It's as simple as that.

Ivan Drago wrote:Well the same folks were cutting films for years under the Miramax, Dimension and Premier Asia labels.
No they weren't!

Bey and Brian didn't work for them then. The labels are very, very different.
tom2681 wrote:The original Volcano High is a comedy. PA's version is an action film.
Interesting. I thought the comedy killed the DC.
tom2681 wrote:The director was asked to cut his film before its theatrical release.
As the director cut it, it means a hell of a lot.
Yi-Long wrote:I know, but that doesnt change the fact that it's cut, and according to reviews the movie suffers a bit from it.
Just watch it for yourself and see. It's a little confusing but it really is blown up out of proportion. It's still makes perfect sense and is still ace.

It's effectively the Director's Cut as the Director cut it and will never release a longer cut. If you remember Premier Asia actually tried to source the cut footage but were unable to so instead included slides and background info to show was is cut.
tom2681 wrote:To be fair, the film works just fine without that scene. The transition is a bit awkward, that's all.
Agreed, exactly!
Yi-Long wrote:Hmmm... guess I wont see it then, unless it's shown on TV and I'm bored.

Get over it Yi. It IS the Director's Cut silly, not by choice but by default.

Surely you realise many Director's Cut aren't actually 100% director's cut as for various reasons the film didn't turn out "exactly" how they planned.
Yi-Long wrote:I didnt say that cut was PA's fault. I just said it was cut and therefore I'm not really interested in watching it, let alone buying it.
Did you deliberately ignore Tom's comments? It's just a deleted scene. Presumably you've watched DVDs which have decent deleted scenes you wish were part of the film.

How is it remotely any different?
Yi-Long wrote:And why would DD be keeping quiet over Fist of Legend, one of the most wanted releases among asian cinema fans for the last ... whenever DVD started!
Maybe you should ask over at the DD website, they have a blog.
Yi-Long wrote:TBH, they should now just release it on Blu-Ray or HDDVD, so it wont be obsolete when it does finally come out, but everyone has already moved on to HD home-cinema...
DD's titles are too small to support HD yet.
Yi-Long wrote:By some, I bet you mean ME, but fact is that distributors forced cuts upon a movie which werent the director's intended cut, and those cuts resulted in a movie that's less good than it should be.
And you think this is unique? You'd never watch any move if you paid 100% attention to censorship cuts.

So what if it's less good? It's not exactly uncommon to enjoy a film which has a few minor flaws. It can still be ace though. This is no different. The only difference being how the cuts came about.

I suggest you actually watch it instead of harping on about something you've not even seen, especially when everyone here is telling you it still works perfectly fine.
Yi-Long wrote:People who had absolutely nothing to do with the creation and production of a movie (or any other piece of art), shouldnt be allow to cut it. Simple.
So you've never watched or bought a movie the MPAA enforced cuts on then?
Yi-Long wrote:It's as simple as that.
So the alternative is you don't watch it then? Right that makes sense.

You dont understand and you probably wont understand: I dont want to watch cut movies and thus paying money for something I feel that shouldnt be rewarded.
It's a matter of principle. And I'm stubborn. As soon as it's a forced cut, I am no longer interested in watching that version.

And I suppose no one else understands either? Trust me I do understand why people don't want to watch cut films but you also need to put the cuts into context too. Even Mark can see the difference between one type of cut and another.

So you've never watched or bought a movie the MPAA enforced cuts on then? I suppose you've never seen Goldeneye or Tomorrow Never Dies then? Too name two of many. Funny principle you have there if you can break it when it suits you.

Brian White ran Premier Asia, with Bey Logan at least contributing commentaries. Harvey Weinstein owned Miramax and Dimension and is renowed for cutting films

I try to avoid buying ANY cut (but 3rd party) versions, yeah.

I've seen Goldeneye and TMD on TV (and not completely, cause they sucked, Pierce Brosnan sucks, and I wouldnt even buy an uncut version of those movies on DVD)

I like how you assume that I break my principles, cause I doubt there are more then 5 dvd's in my collection that are CUT versions, unless I didnt know about them being cut. Like I said, when I KNOW they are cut, I wont buy them. Obviously, you dont always know, but usually (I read reviews) I do know.

I dont break my principles.

I know that, but your point was the films Miramax and Dimension released cut can be compared against DD's release because Harvey is the head of both, when in fact things are very different with how DD handle films.

Harvey has little input into DD releases.

What do you mean by third party cuts?

Which five?

p.s - Bichunmoo is worth seeing :D

I feel kind of the same way, but what about American History X? The director actually disowned that, yet it's an amazing film.

According to IMDB the DVD is extended, maybe a DC. Why did he disown it?

If DD continues to cut films, or knowingly release cut films, they are repeating the flaws of the ealier companies

And one suspects, given how heavily the cinema release of Tom Young Goong was cut, that Harvey still casts influence if nothing else

Yeah, I did see that and it's a good movie. Wouldnt buy the dvd though. For the reason that it isnt the director's version anymore. I do agree it's a good movie :)

Something to do with Edward Norton taking control in editing so that his character had more screentime. And also the ending wasn't the director's choice.

I've already asked you to name two examples? ;)

I'll give you TYG but can you name another? If you can does 2 cut films take precedence over 20 (or whatever) uncut releases?

If this Rob-B-Hood case is true than that's one. TYG doesn't count because they included the original as well

I consider each DVD on its own merits. But if one flawed disc suggests a lack of care or sense in a company, it means I'm less than impressed. My Young Auntie is no less than the sixth DVD Brian White has presided over that includes the wrong language. Rob-B-Hood is another one tampered - be it cuts or a title change - from the original finished film. 8 years on from HKL and the Dimension Jet Li/Jackie releases and they are STILL making the same mistakes

As far as I'm aware, the DVD is the theatrical cut.

If anyone's holding off Bichunmoo for being cut by a few scenes, bear in mind Eric Von Stotheim's Greed was originally something like 10 hours before the studio cut it down to about 2 and a half hours.

Sometimes the footage is gone for good and we have to accept it and enjoy the film as it stands.

Naturally this is not the case with Rob-B-Hood!
