Just read that DD's release of "Rob-B-Hood" is cut and wrongly dubbed.

Thanks to LClem over at JackieChanForum.net:
LClem wrote:I just wrote a review. Seems like they left in his fighting sounds but otherwise it's not him. They did a sloppy job with the subtitles and cut out the whole bus scene and the scene where Thongs meets "Mack Daddy" at the hospital with his baby. Stick with the Joy Sales version.

The bus scene is ,in my opinion, important to the movie as it not only shows how the nurse comes to realize these two truly need help with the baby, but it also includes a scene where Thongs is told his father is in the hospital and he brushes it off, forgetting about it until later when he is faced with seeing his father after he has had a stroke. The character arc is not complete without the scene on the bus. It may also confuse people who have not seen the original when, in the extras, Jackie discusses the bus scene and the phone call.

Another thing that bugs me about the DRagon Dynasty release is the change of lines in the dubbing. In the scene where Thongs and Octopus are stealing drugs at the hospital, the original lines have Thongs telling him to steal the high priced chemotherapy drugs while the Dragon Dynasty version never identifies what is being taken, just that it's more expensive than the laxatives. This way, you don't see just how really nasty Thongs is here. After all, he's thinking of the money they will get and not the fact that he's stealing medicine from cancer patients who need these drugs to survive.

Does it matter if the dub is stuffed up? I can see the nostalgic value of a 10-20 year old dub but otherwise so what.

It doesn't say what's wrong with the subs, but it does suck they didn't release it uncut. Is it an alternate cut? It's not like DD to release cut films.

That was my thinking, but the scenes that are spoken of are indeed included in the theatrical cut and not bonus scenes that are in the director's cut.

I haven't seen this movie but DD's version has Benny Chan's commentary on it (probably ported from the Joy Sales dvd). If the movie was cut, wouldn't there be synch issues with the commentary? Unless of course, it's a brand new commentary.

They could've edited the commentary. That's what usually happens.

I'm pretty sure it is a new commentary. I have never heard of an HKL, PA or DD release to have ported a commentary.

DD did port over the Korean commentary for their release of City of Violence.

I emailed Bey Logan recently and he said that this year they have a series of Jet Li and Stephen Chow titles lined up. Royal tramp 1 & 2 Collection are supposed to drop next month so lets wait and see.

Apparently, fanboy moaning works. I just got confirmation that DD is not releasing The Killer untill the video master is up to par. (Hard-boiled got tons of heat from internet geeks worldwide.) Honestly, I've yet to see a "perfect" looking version of The Killer. HKL's is probably the best looking version I've seen (and it's English friendly too!), and even I've even heard some outrageous moans about that as well.

The HK DVD sucks. The Tartan is way, way better.

What's wrong with the PQ on Hard Boiled DD? Were people expecting it to look as good as the French DVD?

Good point, me too.

Name me a DD release that is cut? Actually name me two?

Oh yeah. That's the only one though.

Cool. Which Jet Li films? I'm betting on Bodyguard from Beijing, which is a cool Jet film.

Well the same folks were cutting films for years under the Miramax, Dimension and Premier Asia labels. If this story about Rob-B-Hood is true, it does not bode well at all

So what Premier Asia titles are cut?
Crying Fist
Ichi the Killer (due to the BBFC)
Musa (intenational cut)

Anything else out of the about 20 films they released?

Volcano High is heavily cut as well.
Seven Swords too (although it's technically an HKL title).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Never knew "Volcano High" was cut.

Yes, "Seven Swords" is cut as well. Was it released on the PA label? Never really liked "Seven Swords", though. I wanna see it in its full cut.

PA's Volcano High is cut by 20 minutes.
Most of the humour and character development has been removed.

The original Volcano High is a comedy. PA's version is an action film.

Bichunmoo was also cut I believe. I never picked it up and so it was probably cut, cause I AM interested in the movie.

Ong-Bak was uncut but had the crappy new soundtrack, so that's pretty much the same thing for me.

PA's Bichunmoo isn't cut.
A few scenes are missing, but they're also missing on the korean DVD.
The director was asked to cut his film before its theatrical release.

I know, but that doesnt change the fact that it's cut, and according to reviews the movie suffers a bit from it. So I rather just wait untill whenever they WILL release an uncut version, IF that even exists.
