I know the film isn't very good, but at least the Jackie Chan edit is worth having and this Japanese Blu ray release has 3 versions of the film on it, according to sources. It has the American cut, The HK edit AND the Japanese edit which is a mixture of the two,the USA parts in English, the HK in Cantonese (no English subs unfortunately) it also has outtakes at the end which no other version has as far as i know, this version was only released on a rare laserdisc years ago.
Dont know what the picture quality is like but i am tempted to get this.
Its at YESASIA here if anyone is interested...THE PROTECTOR BLU RAY JAPANESE..http://tinyurl.com/899t7z4

Whilst it sounds interesting, the lack of subtitles is a no-no for me.

A lack of subs is less problematic here if you watch the Japanese cut as there's only about 5 mins of Cantonese dialogue (the scenes with Sally Yeh).

5 minutes is a long time to not know what is being said in a film, I can't stand it when even a line of dialogue isn't subtitled lol.

Normally I'd agree, but...

A. The English language DC is included so you can take the HK and JP cuts as extras

B. The additional Cantonese scenes were an afterthought only included to set up a couple of new action sequences.
