Thanks Tom. The HD remaster really is a revelation.

Is that video noise on the BD?
Still a massive improvement though.
That's one ugly DVD.

I've seen transfer in motion, it's definitely film grain. Warner are the Gods of respectable film remasters.

OK. Does look awfully grainy though, no?
Not that I want it to look like DVNR plastic.
I'd definately upgrade when the time comes.

Yes, it can be very grainy. Remember that it's a low budget Australian film, they might've only had access to/been able to afford inferior film stock.

Realistically that's the alternative, which I'm sure you'll agree is much worse.

Yeah, I'm not really complaining as such. Just making an observation. Better grainy than soft.

OK, I never discussed the the PQ detail, of course it's way better on the blu-ray / HD-DVD...
But come on, the color scheme is totally off and make this look like an italian low budget rip off
left DVD right Blu-Ray

Interesting. I prefer the new look, it suits the mood of the film.

New colours don't bother me.

Theaters was the DVD look. I know, I probably saw it like over 10 times yes I had no life then

Less sun-baked. I wonder why they changed it then?

Probably because that's how the negative actually look. I think when the movie prints were made, they may have used a unique chemical process similar to bleach bypass, to result in the "burned earth" look. Probably they didn't use an IP already treated ? I don't know, but it's quite a radical difference.

Sometimes the colour timing is unique to whoever controlled the prints. Thats why differances can occur

The HD version is the uncut one right?

AFAIK, the R2UK DVD I've got contains the R-Rated US theatrical cut.
The Blu-Ray should contain the full international version.
I'll check it out and report back.

The BD has a couple of additional shots, including this one:
I guess that means it's uncut.
