Yep, apart from some edge-enhancement the StudioCanal looks better IMO.

That is some killer edge-enhancement yo.

Can someone explain to me what edge-enhancement is?
I'd vote for the Studio Canal; much better, though it almost looks too sharp.
Shame it's slightly cropped on the left.

Awesome, good chance that the R2UK release from Momentum uses the Studio Canal transfer (almost all my other Momentum DVDs do). I'll buy that.

Can someone explain to me what edge-enhancement is?
Edge-enhancement comes from a sharpening filter that is added to a transfer in order to improve the look of a DVD on smaller screens.
While it does improve perceived picture quality on <28" screens, it is very annoying on big screens.
Edge-enhancement is often seen as a white halo around the edge of objects.
It has plagued DVD for years and is often used to hide the lack of detail that can be found in non-HD prints.
Edge-enhancement increases grain levels and contrast levels. It also makes print damage more noticeable.

@Mark:
Examples of edge-enhancement in this very subforum:
-Musa: PA cap N°2, top of the carriage. PA last cap, top of the castle.
-Swordsman: FS last cap, under Sam Hui's sword.
-OUATIC 3: HKV cap N°2, around Rosie Kwan's chin.

Yup, highly likely that the Momentum DVD uses the Studio Canal master.

Studio Canal. In the agreement,
Momentum will distribute
six English language productions to which Studio Canal
holds the U.K. rights. The titles include Simpatico (starring
Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges and Sharon Stone), Cecil B. Demented (directed by John Waters), Weight of Water (starring
Sean Penn and Catherine McCormack),
Gohatto (starring Takeshi Kitano) and Bruiser (starring Jason Flemyng). The
agreement also covers non-English language films for which Studio Canal holds the rights for the U.K. Additional
titles will come through existing deals with U.K. production house Company Pictures, Canada’s Serendipity Point Films
and Alliance Atlantis’ in-house production slate.
I also found these
screen caps of it.

Looks like the same transfer (same framing). The difference in colours, brightness etc. is probably caused by incorrect dvd-player settings. I have actually seen the UK disc with my own eyes and even though I can't remember how it looked like it sure didn't look like those caps. So, I think Momentum is a safe bet (and also very cheap).

I think Monumentum is a safe bet
Dude... "Monumentum"..."Combining"... Your finnish origins are really showing today.
Minä en ymmärrä suomea, but still... Adding syllables in the middle of words is typically finnish.

My good friend Mr. Isaksson just confirmed Momentum is indeed a port of Studio Canal.
