I hate Winamp find it the worst thing in history to use, evrything looks wrong and feels wrong for me.

I use Winamp Lite, have done for many years now.

I never use visualisations or DSPs in WMP. I don't see the point. Codecs are covered with K-Lite. I've never used Foobar2000 and haven't used Winamp for years but I cannot think of much in WMP I wish it could do, actually nothing. Unlike IE6 and now IE7 where there is lots.

Now you mention it I do recall Winamp have lots of cool plugins, but none I've missed since moving to WMP. I used to hate it prior to v11, lists are dull as dishwater. I used to run Winamp 2 but disliked Winamp 3 (it didn't properly support Winamp 2 skins for one), so stuck with v2 until I moved to WMP11. Winamp 3 was a definite step back.

Are there any particular superb plugins? How does Foobar2000 compare against Winamp? It looks like it has lots of plugins but is otherwise pretty damn basic.

I see Winamp in the latest release finally supports Album Art. I may have to give it a go.

I couldn't now go back to lists. For me a browser needs to be functional but a media library needs to be graphical and funky to look at. WMP11 happens to also be a decent Music Player too. It's useless as a video player though.

Correction, they'd be using a High-End CD Player with High-End Amp. If the source is still lossy audio, the source quality will never be as good to start with. Sure you can use FLAC but most don't and why bother when you have the CD anyway? Unless there is a download resource specialising in FLAC.

I tend to care about it more when it comes to CDs. MP3s by design are lossy so I care less.

I've installed Winamp 5.

It's definitely an improvement over v3 but I still miss the WMP11 Album Art View. Is there any way to replicate this in Winamp? There's too many lists for my liking. Is there any way to make the Album Art go across the screen too? It's just one long list.

I can see why you like it Eva, it's very WMP9 like. The Bento skin is a definite improvement. Are there any decent Winamp 5 skin sites? All the ones I can see are for Winamp 2 and they all suck.

Is there any Mini-Player? So when it's minimized it doesn't just minimize. Otherwise it looks pretty good. It's surprising to see how much hasn't change from the Winamp 2 days. It's good to see a Podcast section. Something seriously lacking in WMP, it doesn't have one .

I'll leave it installed for the next few days. I'll probably install it though, that is unless I discover some must have plugins.

Yes, towards the top left corner of the media library window there's a button to toggle it. Personally I hate it, as it makes browsing/scrolling more time consuming.

Personally I don't bother as I use the Foxytunes extension to control playback from within Firefox.

I discover some must have plugins.

Out_asio is essential if you value sound quality. Its gapless playback mode is also great. An ASIO driver is required, else Kernel Streaming is the next best thing.

Thanks for the info. I do like in Winamp you've got lots of information all in one screen, in WMP11 it's often in several screens. Winamp 5 is growing on me. I'm not sure it beats WMP11 though.

The site being in Japanese is not an issue. One is fully capable of downloading an archive, unzipping the contents into the plugins folder and then going into the Preferences and selecting and then configuring the appropriate Output plugin.

The SSE2 version is the most ideal for 32-bit OSes.

Winamp 5 is growing on me. I'm not sure it beats WMP11 though.

It easily beats WMP11 in the technical arena and in its flexibility/customisability. I couldn't really give a rat's arse about the pretty GUI functionality crap that you get boners over, what's there I find perfectly serviceable.

Interesting, is it much better? An Audio specific EXE now must run all the time for audio to work. It's some sort of Audio Manager.

True. I do like that so much info is right in front of you, such as: Album, Artist and Track details. It's growing on me and is certainly better than the clunky Winamp 3. The Bento skin is decent too, the old Winamp 2/3 skins are too tiny.

I'd prefer it if there was some sort of Album Art view, whereby you navigate Artists\Albums by Album Art. I'd also prefer a proper Mini-Player that sits in the Taskbar or System Tray.

It's surprising it's taken so long to properly support Album Art. That was one of the major reasons I switched to WMP11.

It's supposed to be better, although I'd wager that it won't be as widely supported as the established ASIO as it's tied to the one OS and an MS one at that.

Officially, yes. But 3rd party plugins that added that feature had been available for several years.

Even more so when Vista is considered a failure and not even SP1 has managed to save it.

I am in shock that the Mighty Anchor Bay would release them 2 films on Blu Ray, as frankly both are below average. Popular, but that means little. They own so many amazing films, yet release them two, classy.

Hellraiser is decent,not seen it in years mind,Children of the Corn is resolutely average and not worth even a rent imo let alone a blu-ray purchase.

Children of the corn must sell better than I think it does, I dont know anyone who thinks its good but a film that has 14 sequels has to be watched by someone, just like Hellraiser and its 38 sequels

Hellraiser is a fan favourite, is it not? That reason alone makes lots of "business sense".

HELLRAISER is alright. Bizarrely it was made in England, but set in the USA. So you've got all these British actors pretending to be American. I think they even dubbed it for the American theatrical release. An expert on the film would know more than me about that though.
