The sheer capabilities and flexibility of the plugins on offer, it's almost the Firefox of the audio player world (that honour would go to Foobar2000). Output plugins that can change how the audio is handled.bradavon wrote:Why is it so good, again?
I once was blind, but now I see. Over a year ago I was as ignorant on the subject, as you have always been. No, the fact you've said many times you dislike WMP10 and use (or rather used) WMP9. Remember, fool!.
I never use visualisations or DSPs in WMP. I don't see the point. Codecs are covered with K-Lite. I've never used Foobar2000 and haven't used Winamp for years but I cannot think of much in WMP I wish it could do, actually nothing. Unlike IE6 and now IE7 where there is lots.EvaUnit02 wrote:WMP is limited to codecs, visualisations and DSP shit. It's extension support is equivalent to that of IE7.
Correction, they'd be using a High-End CD Player with High-End Amp. If the source is still lossy audio, the source quality will never be as good to start with. Sure you can use FLAC but most don't and why bother when you have the CD anyway? Unless there is a download resource specialising in FLAC.EvaUnit02 wrote:Anyone who really gave a damn about audio quality would be using a player that offered an ASIO output plugin. (In addition to hardware that cuts the mustard - starting with a sound card that offered bit-perfect/bit-matched playback.)
Yes, towards the top left corner of the media library window there's a button to toggle it. Personally I hate it, as it makes browsing/scrolling more time consuming.bradavon wrote:I've installed Winamp 5.
It's definitely an improvement over v3 but I still miss the WMP11 Album Art View. Is there any way to replicate this in Winamp?
No clue, as I'm happy with Big Bento. Are there any decent Winamp 5 skin sites?
Of course, there's Windowshade mode. Click the button to the left of the Close button (X) in top-right corner. Is there any Mini-Player? So when it's minimized it doesn't just minimize.
Out_asio is essential if you value sound quality. Its gapless playback mode is also great. An ASIO driver is required, else Kernel Streaming is the next best thing.I discover some must have plugins.
Thanks. I found that. It doesn't really replicate WMP11's Album Art view but it will do.EvaUnit02 wrote:Yes, towards the top left corner of the media library window there's a button to toggle it. Personally I hate it, as it makes browsing/scrolling more time consuming.
That's the one I'm using, it's clearly been modelled after Vista.EvaUnit02 wrote:No clue, as I'm happy with Big Bento.
I found that but it's pretty useless. It's not Always on Top and just sits at the top, instead of somewhere useful like the Taskbar or System Tray. Am I missing something?EvaUnit02 wrote:Of course, there's Windowshade mode. Click the button to the left of the Close button (X) in top-right corner.
It's in I presume Japanese, what does it do? Is it a replacement for DirectSound?EvaUnit02 wrote:Out_asio is essential if you value sound quality.
Options menu -> Always on Top.bradavon wrote:I found that but it's pretty useless. It's not Always on Top and just sits at the top, instead of somewhere useful like the Taskbar or System Tray. Bit-perfect audio.bradavon wrote:It's in I presume Japanese, what does it do? Is it a replacement for DirectSound?EvaUnit02 wrote:Out_asio is essential if you value sound quality.
It easily beats WMP11 in the technical arena and in its flexibility/customisability. I couldn't really give a rat's arse about the pretty GUI functionality crap that you get boners over, what's there I find perfectly serviceable.Winamp 5 is growing on me. I'm not sure it beats WMP11 though.
Thanks. Is it possible to move the window?EvaUnit02 wrote:Options menu -> Always on Top.
Interesting, is it much better? An Audio specific EXE now must run all the time for audio to work. It's some sort of Audio Manager.EvaUnit02 wrote:The best available audio quality until someone writes plugin to that uses Vista's WaveRT.
It is to understand itEvaUnit02 wrote:The site being in Japanese is not an issue.
True. I do like that so much info is right in front of you, such as: Album, Artist and Track details. It's growing on me and is certainly better than the clunky Winamp 3. The Bento skin is decent too, the old Winamp 2/3 skins are too tiny.EvaUnit02 wrote:It easily beats WMP11 in the technical arena and in its flexibility/customisability.
Is that the: out_asio(exe).dll (exe version) Ver. 0.70EvaUnit02 wrote:The SSE2 version is the most ideal for 32-bit OSes.

Have you tried dragging the title bar with the mouse?bradavon wrote:Thanks. Is it possible to move the window?EvaUnit02 wrote:Options menu -> Always on Top.
It's supposed to be better, although I'd wager that it won't be as widely supported as the established ASIO as it's tied to the one OS and an MS one at that.bradavon wrote:Interesting, is it much better?EvaUnit02 wrote:The best available audio quality until someone writes plugin to that uses Vista's WaveRT.
Have you given the Firefox extension, Foxytunes, a try? It's very useful.I'd also prefer a proper Mini-Player that sits in the Taskbar or System Tray.
Officially, yes. But 3rd party plugins that added that feature had been available for several years. It's surprising it's taken so long to properly support Album Art.
It'd be in the same archive as the DLL version. Is that the: out_asio(exe).dll (exe version) Ver. 0.70EvaUnit02 wrote:The SSE2 version is the most ideal for 32-bit OSes.

From my understanding of it:- faster and more direct access to the sound card is given. ASIO is also an officially supported standard in the audio engineering world.Dare I ask, why is ASIO better than Kernel Streaming?
It doesn't work, thanks anyway.EvaUnit02 wrote:Have you tried dragging the title bar with the mouse?
Even more so when Vista is considered a failure and not even SP1 has managed to save it.EvaUnit02 wrote:It's supposed to be better, although I'd wager that it won't be as widely supported as the established ASIO as it's tied to the one OS and an MS one at that.
I'd prefer it wasn't tied into the browser, thanks though.Have you given the Firefox extension, Foxytunes, a try? It's very useful.
Understood, thanks. From my understanding of it:- faster and more direct access to the sound card is given. ASIO is also an officially supported standard in the audio engineering world.
