Based on that review... avoid at all costs !

It seems the Joy Sales is very similar to the R1.

That's what I though...

Don't know if I've mentioned this, but PEKING OPERA BLUES has original mono, not a remix. :)

I don't know if you've mentioned it but I'm getting it. :)

Although as far as I remember the Mega Star disc wasn't too bad. The transfer was pretty decent (JS actually looks a bit dark, I always thought POB is meant to be a bright film) and I don't recal any big problems with the 5.1 audio. It's been quite a long time since I last viewed the whole film, though.

The subs have been cleaned up.

No more: "There's a woman, knock her up" (which happens to be my motto).

Is there a "good in all departments" version of this on dvd yet?

Sadly no, Brooce.

I think I'm getting the HKL. Joy Sales and the French disc are both downmixes (there may or may not be a good mandarin mono on JS though, can't remember), Fox is Fox and I can't see any other editions coming anytime soon.

*Added french caps*

Time to get rid of my HKL disc.
I just hope the sync issues have been fixed on the Seven Sept version.

The FR disc was remixed (or downmixed), right?

Has anyone bought the new German disc?

Details on French version? Sadly it suffers from double (? Fox being the first) left/right cropping syndrome which affects some DVDs using FS's stuff.

by tom2681
Yep, there's some slight cropping and window-boxing on the french transfer.

Disc size: 6,73 gb.
Running time: 94:29 minutes (PAL).
2:35.1 progressive anamorphic transfer.

Sound:
5.1 french dub.
2.0 cantonese soundtrack (don't know whether it's a downmix).

Removable french subs.

Extras:
Original HK trailer for Ah Kam.
Trailer for Project A, Shanghai Express, Eastern Condors, Project A 2.
7:36 Yuen Wah interview (cantonese with french subs).

Shoddy French standards = no original trailer :? ?

@ChenLung:
Nope. I was disappointed as well.
Might keep the FOX disc for the trailer.

English subs, woohoo. I thought this would be another custom sub job... I'm getting this asap.

Das Deutchland cover = (except the top one). I like HKL's one too. Thanks Huss.

Curiously, English 2.0? Could either be a downmix of the STAR TV dub, or the original one has been sourced (said to be trimmed in comparison to the HK version). Will have to ask about Cantonese 2.0's status too.

That looks to be a fine package indeed, but are the subtitles flubtitles (original print), dubtitles (Fox), Tai Seng's (could be on Universe's DVD too maybe in which re-translate) or HKLs (on... well HKL's)?

The only thing to make it truly definitive are the HKL Sammo interviews, English credit sequence/trailer and the reportedly excellent Universe remix.

Is the 'Live Show' the 1987 'Miss Beauty Pageant' thing in which everyone flips all over the stage etc?

Are extras English subtitled?

Hidden feature is apparently the German credits as Hussain mentions according to this (http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=fassun ... vid=224954).

Also, the review mentions the German dub has subtitles for scenes cut in other versions - could it revert to the Cantonese version? The English version could be the same. (Used Babelfish and it's worked somewhat for once  )

That top cover is sooooo gay!! The other two are OK though.

If someone can confirm that the Cantonese mono is genuine, that the film is proper uncut, and that the English subs aren't dubtitles, then I'd buy this.

LD: We await your appraisal. :D

the asiandvdguide thread says "original mono" with the word original underlined. I guess that means the poster knows what he's talking about.

EDIT: mono, not momo

Class. :)

Now about the subs.......

EC desperately needs a definitive version as all the others are flawed.

Is that guy called spannick? If so, then I'm pretty sure he is trustworthy. He is envolved with the releases of that DVD label and he knows his stuff.
