So you are viewing them both scaled up large on your Big screen I take it then. Or maybe not.

oh it must be an upscale then.

yet you claim to have read the hdd review which makes no mention of upscale and whose review is actually generally favorable with a few caveats.i actually agree,it doesn't look great looking at those two caps but that doesn't mean it's an upscale.

Fair enough then, I'll check some other reviews but I'm right, IF it is an upscale I won't buy it.
Just browsing now and getting quotes like "Fans of the film should be happy with the quality of this transfer".

Overall I’d say this is transfer is only a little better than an up-converted DVD
and features a sub-perfect transfer that mostly looks up-converted SD.

that reviewer also says it's an improvement on the dvd so it's a little contradictory.all i know is if it's the same transfr as the one i've watched on Sky HD i'll be fairly happy..fuck it only cost £9.99 and i got nearly a fiver on ebay for the dvd

I mean I'm right in the sense that upscale (if true) means no buy.

so you are saying you aren't actually an expert on upscales and (like me) you probably wouldn't know an upscale if it jumped up and bit you on the arse? you watch HD on a 32' don't you?

Eh?
Sam, yeah I watch HD on a 32" but so what? If a BD is proven merely to be an upscaled transfer from the DVD, there is no point in buying it, since popping in said equivalent DVD will produce the same approximate transfer, no? It will upscale it.
Based on those 2 caps I saw, the BD didnt look much better but now I don't know.

"Upscale", so over used as a word, and so few times it means anything at all to do with any discs, as most the people using it are brainless and have zero knowlege about transfers, so they toss "Upscale" about to make their comments/reviews sound better. It makes them sound like muppets.

Originally I wanted a larger screen but now I got used to it 32" seems an acceptable size for my room, its OK for me anyway, if you sit 3-4 feet away.

The Wicker Man (1973) BD in October (apparently):

I hope at least 2 1973 cuts (TC and DC) are offered, or even all 3 (though thats unlikely), with the previous DVD extras.

There's only two Wicker man cuts is there not? I'd be happy with just the DC. The TC doesn't need to be included for me. Not that it's one I'd rush to upgrade.

I heard there was a version made for US TV (?) that was 95 minutes, kinda half way between the TC and DC.
