Yay! Thanks. What's the AV like?

Good, but not as good as the US BD.

Interesting. Thanks. Will you be comparing them properly? The UK BD has the original audio at least, although the 5.1 on my SE DVD is pretty good.

No I don't own the US BD so can't do a proper comparison.

I can get a few caps from the US Nikita BD but they'll have been taken randomly.

Gladiator BD is awful. Braveheart seems good.

What! Any captures/more thoughts Lourdes? I hope Gladiator isn't awful. No! No! No!

That review seems quite positive to me. I hope the UK BD is the same.

Lots of DNR and halos.

I'm sure I'll still think it's great and better than the DVD. I cannot wait to get this and Braveheart.
The DNR does look rubbish though. It's odd how the Extended scenes are left alone.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be better than the DVD

Watched Leon today and the audio on the long version sounded compressed dynamically to me, doesn't appear to be a problem with the disc switching my amps dynamic range compression on. The Theatrical Cut doesn't appear to have this option, but i've not yet had the chance to sit down and properly compare the two.

Just checked my Leon disc properly now and I realise what they've done, they've only gone and used a 2.0 master on the DTS track, it sounds identical to the LPCM 2.0 track! What a cock up.

According to the IMDB LEON is Dolby Digital not Stereo/Surround so yeah 2.0 isn't the best. Is the Theatrical Cut the same?

Really? No Surround usage? Are there any particularly bad scenes? I can check my German BD. I haven't noticed but I've not checked the whole film. Leon German BD has no LPCM 2.0 and DTS-HD HR
7.1 instead, so obviously not the same.
Markgway wrote:According to the IMDB LEON is Dolby Digital not Stereo/Surround so yeah 2.0 isn't the best.
DD what though? DD is just a codec, it can be anything from 1.0 to 6.1.

Here's what it says at the IMDB:
Dolby Digital | SDDS (8 channels)

That would translate to DD5.1 on home formats.
AFAIK SSDS has never been used on home formats but 8 channels does mean the German BD in theory at least already had a 7.1 channel mix to utilise.

It's a 2.0 surround track Brad, so there is "rear action"

, but obviously nowhere near like the DTS-HD MA track on the theatrical cut, which is true 5.1.

Yeah the theatrical cut is fine.

Being Surround doesn't mean it has rear action for sure

Any particularly good scenes to check? I'm now wondering if my German BD is the same. If not, then it's a big reason to get the German BD, even if it does cost a bomb.
Shingster wrote:Yeah the theatrical cut is fine.

No, but I have ears, they work, I have sat down and listened to the LPCM track and I'm telling you it has rear sounds. Is that good enough?

The opening set piece, particularly the scene when the fat man sends his goons outside and the shutters come down and Leon dispatches them off camera. Also follow through until the fat man shoots through the shutters with his uzi. The difference between the 2.0 and 5.1 (or 7.1) should be very obvious here.

Yes but a simple "Yes Brad it does use the rear speakers" would've equally been enough

I'll see if I can check it out tomorrow night. The German BD has both cuts too. So like you say, it should be easy to check. I thought the DTS-HD MA 5.1 and LPCM 2.0 sounded identical though?
There is no LPCM on the German BD, just DTS-HD HR 7.1 but I'm guessing (if faulty) the Extended Cut should sound compressed and flat, compared with the Theatrical Cut.
