No question about it. I'd be happy to bear Takeshi Kitano's love child.

What does ex PAL mean? That doesn't mean it's Native unless I'm missing some Aussie/Kiwi slang.
Aussie DVDs just don't seem to do this.
Not so because those £14 DVDs you cite WILL go down in price when it's sales time. Virtually all the time anyway.EvaUnit02 wrote:HA! For once you poms will know what's it's like for me when I want to import R2UK DVDs that are 14+ pounds!

Cuz he's a pretentious git?
I have no idea honestly. Hendrik Sylow of www.kitanotakeshi.com will probably post a review on dvdbeaver when it's released in May, then we'll know for sure. I'll be buying it when it's released on June 15th regardless (Madman NZ usually releases stuff about a month after Oz in order to have time for the OFLC to classify the film).

"Blood and Bones"... now THAT FILM... is really tough to watch. It's really good, but Kitano plays a man you wil hate. Watched it at last year's Fantasy Filmfestival in August.
Here is my mini-review from our review thread.

Blood and Bones - 4.5/5
Whoa! Watched this at the theatre yesterday. Kitano plays the biggest asshole on earth. It is such a great role.
The film is narrated by the son of Kitano's character. He talks about how his father would always be like a solid wall in his life.
I think I watched most of the films Kitano appears in and I have never seen him play such a character. He rapes his wife and other women and beats the crap out of everybody who 'he thinks' is pissing him off.
The whole thing takes place post WWII in Osaka.
What an awesome and touching film. This I'll be getting on DVD.

Well, it's a 2005 film.bradavon wrote:Cheers. I see it's an old title finally getting released.
Like "Battle Royale"? Yeah, that was great. I really like his directing though. When I pop a Kitano-film into my DVD player I know that I'll be watching a slow/calm film, combined with action or drama and wonderful imagery. Can't wait to watch "A Scene at the Sea". I have it at home, just waiting for the right moment to watch this. I prefer to watch his films on my own.I just find his work where he's not directed better for me.

Yep he was awesome in that. That's a great film, lots of fun.thelostdragon wrote:Like "Battle Royale"? Yeah, that was great.
I prefer to watch all films on my own, no food neither. I don't want to take my eyes off the screen once. I liked to get immersed in a film which is difficult with people and food around.thelostdragon wrote:I prefer to watch his films on my own.

Well, to me it depends on the kind of film. A film like "xXx" for example, I'd watch with my friends as then we can laugh about Vin Diesel's remarks. The same goes for any no-brainer.
As for decent or artistic films with a good storyline etc, I love to re-watch them with friends, just to present them a good movie and to see their reactions.

Your friends must be more open minded than mine I gave up along time ago getting them to see non-Hollywood/British films.thelostdragon wrote:As for decent or artistic films with a good storyline etc, I love to re-watch them with friends, just to present them a good movie and to see their reactions.
I suspect it's the lack of subtitles in the English speaking world. They're more common place over the rest of Europe, even when watching English language films. People are simply used to seeing them.

I didn't think all that much of Blood & Bones and I thought even less of Takeshis.thelostdragon wrote:No. His latest film is "Takeshis' " which is supposed to be his most personal film. He is the lead actor in "Blood and Bones", but he didn't direct. For "Takeshis' " he took the director's chair again and starred in it as well.
