Amusing family fun.

'Puss' is a great character and there're plenty of cute moments to make up for story lulls and lack of LOL gags.

Tabloid (2010-USA) **½

Curious documentary from Errol Morris about a former Wyoming beauty queen who allegedly kidnapped a mormon back in the 70s so he would marry her... Film maintains interest for its 80 mins, but sordid sex and the media story is still pretty thin.

Watched this last night, and absolutely loved it. The story is pretty small and straightforward: Hotshot racecar is egocentric until he gets stuck in a small town and learns some valuable lifelessons.

Yeah, that sounds pretty lame to me as well, but it's done perfectly here and is entertaining throughout, with lots of humour and interesting characters (brilliantly voiced btw). It all looks fantastic, as you would expect from Pixar.

Not sure how it will hold up on repeat viewings, but I'm sure gonna find out.

Only thing that was a bit annoying was that it had a surround-sound track, and I played the sound through my TV so some off-screen sounds and lines were very difficult to hear. I guess there should be an option hidden somewhere to fix that, but I couldn't really find it.

Also, seeing all those great colourful cars, it really makes you wonder why the hell they haven't been able to produce a proper game for this movie with top-down Micro Machines gameplay.

Anyway, 4.5/5

The story is a ripoff of Doc Hollywood (Michael J Fox). It is one of my son's favourite films - I think the first proper film I showed to him. I love it too. Its often regarded as one of Pixar's worst from fans, which I don't understand.

Cars just doesnt really appeal to me that much TBH, it just looks like talking cars and the story doesnt appeal to me as much as the Toy Story films, A Bugs Life etc

Now that you mention it, yeah, it has a lot in common with Doc Hollywod. I'm sure that movie also isn't the only one of it's kind, where someone gets 'stuck' somewhere and learns valuable life-lessons. Groundhog Day also kinda has that

I think its the talking cars aspect. They say it doesn't make sense. GET OVER IT! It's a cartoon FFS. I don't see how people can say its ok for a world where toys actually come to life, or a world where monsters exist and live like humans, but we can't have a world just with talking cars?

I've only seen the odd Pixar film.

They're not my cup of tea, animation isn't for me except for Japanese stuff and even then I'm not majorly fussed. It's intended for kids, which I cannot relate too. Sure I appreciate adults get something from it too but I'd rather being watching adult films to be honest. Lion King (as in western animation), Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Wall-E are very good but otherwise I can take or it leave it. I've not even seeing bothered Toy Story 3.

I'm not a fan of animation, any animation, Japanese or otherwise, but if something is good, it's good, and I can appreciate the skill that goes into Pixar and similarly animated studio product.
