Indeed, that is interesting :)
Thats what I used to hear about the music too Mark, it used to be live and was often improvised.

Some silents, METROPOLIS for example, had a score written for their original release. Other examples: THE BIRTH OF A NATION, NOSFERATU.

Cat O' Nine Tails 2/5 Lesser early Argento movie, there was better to come.Good cast led by James Franciscus & Karl Malden and an excellent Morricone score. Coincidentally Franciscus's ally in this is,importantly to the plot, blind, later that year of course Franciscus would make the famous tv show Longstreet, playing the part of a blind man himself.

METROPOLIS' original score (on the Blu Ray) was brilliant. :)

Nope. The article is nonsense.

You've still not responded to the fact virtually everyone is loving it and plenty of those people don't get a flying fuck about awards. Gas thought it was average/overrated but I think enjoyed it. You and Brian are the only people I've ever read who hate it.
saltysam wrote:And by the way, you've linked to the mirror review but named the Daily Mail
Obviously a typo (is that the best you can come up with?). The review is for The Mirror, the newspaper you claimed had got it "spot on".

My name isn't on here, although obviously if you look hard enough on the internet I'm sure you could find it.

I've got their older MOC DVD. I imagine the music is the same and agreed it "really" adds to the film.

I've wondered that to. I guessed it was some sort of loose script.

That's what I meant. The film obviously didn't have sound, that wasn't possible but it wasn't shown silent.

I don't mind ignorance, but cocky ignorance...no thank you!

I mean, Brad, do you even LIKE asian films? And in this case, Wong Kar Wai and Crouching Tiger won't count.

ok, people, take it easy. Brad is a friend, next topic, review something else

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (USA, 2011) – 3/5
An enjoyable mishmash adventure / travel catalogue. Mostly fun action scenes, transvestite looking Tom Cruise, Russians, awful opening credits, hilariously unfunny Simon Pegg, some embarrassing CGI explosions, Samuli Edelmann... quite enough to make it a solid summer blockbuster that happened to be released in the winter. Oh, and Léa Seydoux... bloody hot despite being Caucasian and blonde on top of all. Odd... what's wrog with me??!!

I don't have it but I rented it and the quality was very good for a film that old. They even found rediscovered footage that was presumed lost since 1927, in awful shape and pretty battered but it was interesting to see it. And to be honest its amazing its there at all.

The other DVD I have is a Sunday Times freebie from 2000-ish so probably pre Eureka (certainly pre MoC).

The music in the trailer is fantastic - I dont know if the older DVD is the same.

The 2003, 2005 and latest UK DVDs of METROPOLIS all have the original score. The 1998 dvd used a very battered print, and a electronic score by some chap called Peter Osbourne.

The Giorgio Moroder score for METROPOLIS, avaliable on US DVD, is awesome!

Correct I did but I still found a Mirror review. The rest is just splitting hairs.

I disagreed with your review if that's what you mean but I don't like or dislike, it's just a review. My smartarseness was in response to your smartarseness seeking out a review that validated your opinion.

What on earth has that got to do with anything? I like films and own many Asian ones. Does that answer your bizarre question?

Er. why don't they count? Wong Kar-Wai isn't even populist like CTHD is.

Did the extra footage add much? I've been keen to check it out but it's not a film I'd watch much. Agreed, it's amazing they found it at all.

Technically I own the Eureka 2 Disc SE but it came out not long before MOC was created. I believe the MOC DVD is just a re-package. There wouldn't be any point doing anything extra. Yes that music in the YouTube video is identical to my DVD.

see this proves my point about you actually in real life being the basis for the daft twat in the Viz. Your smartarse comment mentioning Transformers 3 was in response to my initial review,if you hadn't i wouldn't have posted for the review i came across..why not accept the fact you are basically stupid and you are up against an old fart like me who is older, wiser, heterosexual and can buy and sell you twice over?is that so hard to comprehend? :dontknow: i actually believe you owe me an apology,it's not right i have to keep on pointing out your stupidity, work it out for yourself.

If you can't take a sarcy comment, I suggest you be a man. It's pretty sad when someone can dish them out but can't take them back.
saltysam wrote:if you hadn't i wouldn't have looked for the review i found.
Dude that's really petty. There was a whole week between me saying that and you posting your come back.
saltysam wrote:why not accept the fact you are basically stupid and you are up against an old fart like me who is older, wiser, heterosexual and can buy and sell you twice over?is that so hard to comprehend?
Heterosexual, wtf! Wiser? Ha. You're the one who's cheated on his wife (your words), pissed off the wife and now feels guilty about it.

As you're so much older than the rest of us, you'd think you'd have learnt something by now. And before you get pissed again for making it personal, you brought the wife up. I didn't.
saltysam wrote:i actually believe you owe me an apology,it's not right i have to keep on pointing out your stupidity, work it out for yourself.
You were the one who sought out a come back, a "week" later, to what boils down to a sarcastic comment and the best you could come up with was a factually inaccurate columnist's comment from a newspaper that gave The Artist 5 out of 5 anyway. If that's the best you could find to prove your point The Artist is shite, dude you're really scraping the barrel.

The fact you cared enough to actually Google one is even more petty. All I did was search for The Mirror's review of The Artist. It wasn't hard to find and surprise surprise they thought it was wicked too but let me guess, they're film critics too, so must be talking out of their arse right?

Show me again who's the thick fuck here?

Amicus anthology; not bad of its type.
Despite title film is bloodless.

:notworthy: if it was someone with intelligence dishing out sarcy comments i'd have no problem.but it was the widely acknowledged stupidest person on these boards trying to be smart so that's different.

Here's what i posted on 2nd February

Mirror columnist gets it spot on over the rubbish The Artist :notworthy:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/mobile/news-opi ... -23731634/

see Brad,no mention of you at all.you then decided,on the 4th Feb to search out a review from the mirror (then quote the mail twice) to try and belittle .so i'd suggest the evidence shows this little spat was started by yourself.wicked eh :drunk:

Four Flies On Grey Velvet 2/5 3rd and for years hardest to see entry in Argento's "Animal" trilogy.Nowhere near his best work, doesn't help that the lead character played by Michael Brandon is so unlikeable.Another excellent Morricone score, the Shameless BD is very good for the most part.

saltysam wrote:if it was someone with intelligence dishing out sarcy comments i'd have no problem.
So you're only allowed to be intelligent to be sarcastic, yet sarcasm they say is the lowest form of wit. Right, okay that makes sense.
saltysam wrote:but it was the widely acknowledged stupidest person on these boards trying to be smart so that's different.
You regularly mention that as if it's some kind of basis for accuracy, there less than a dozen regular members. That hardly makes it conclusive.
saltysam wrote:i have a decent job,a good family, decent friends.you are in your 30's and pretty much a loser..unemployed yet again and hoping to be a film critic.you can't even spell half the time let alone write
I can't spell yet one of my film reviews is published in a national magazine and they've asked for more. There's nowt wrong with my spelling. It's often brought up as a easy jab, when typos are made, yet the evidence speaks otherwise. Show me one person who doesn't make typos? This is an internet forum, not a business letter or cv.

Decent friends! That's as bizarre as saying you were straight earlier. How can anyone possibly know anyone else doesn't too? It's hardly a strong argument.
saltysam wrote:Again epic fail you clueless imbecile.i read Brian Reade's review in that mornings Mirror
So now you're contracting yourself? "looked for the review". Your words, not mine.
saltysam wrote:Then managed to quote the mail twice
So? You're too thick to realise that's not the important part. The fact the newspaper you sought out to back up that the film's rubbish, actually loved it is.
saltysam wrote::notworthy: :notworthy:
And? You've never seen someone use wicked as a positive before? It's well established. Is that best you can do to lambaste me?
saltysam wrote:so i'd suggest the evidence shows this little spat was started by yourself
I see you've chosen to ignore the fact you sought out (your words not mine), a week later a response to my comment. Yet I'm the one who started this spat.

It's common practice on forums to disagree. As you clearly can't handle I reckon your talking nonsense for calling The Artist shite, it says more about you than I. You may disagree but that's all I essentially did, as others have done before.

It's strangely boring for an Argento film, it may grow on me with subsequent viewings though.
