WTF is unclear about this reply:

All this talk of 'rear action' is getting Brad excited. ;)

Brad, are you even on this planet anymore? Have the last infinitesimal remnants of your miniscule brain finally decayed away? You no longer seem able to even comprehend simple internet thread structure, nor remember what the fuck reply you're making to what statement. This was your reply to my "rear action" comment:
bradavon wrote:Being Surround doesn't mean it has rear action for sure :).
Which clearly proves you didn't have a fucking clue what I was talking about. You said "yes" after I re-asserted I have ears and I heard sound effects from the rear speakers.

Honest to god, it's like trying to have a conversation with a schizophrenic alzheimer's suffer!

I know? What the fuck are you blabbering about? I know it has surrounds as you told me it does. I was just asking if it has rear activity (as not all 2.0 actually has it), which you've confirmed. Which I understood posts back.

You've then gone into a big rant, not understand that I understood originally. So instead of babbling about me understanding, read! Let me explain. You said:
It's a 2.0 surround track Brad, so there is "rear action" :D
And I responded:
Being Surround doesn't mean it has rear action for sure :).
You then said:
No, but I have ears, they work, I have sat down and listened to the LPCM track and I'm telling you it has rear sounds. Is that good enough?
What's not to understand?

Shing - saw your review up at DVD Times.

Quick question: I have the Korean 2-disc set. Content is exactly the same as the Optimum BD (two cuts, extras, etc). Would you "upgrade"?

Personally despite it's problem I think the German BD picture quality is definitely better than the R1 Superbit Deluxe and the original Integral R1 I used to own.

Seeing as you prefer the Theatrical Cut and I know you'll probably wait until it can be had for less then £10, then I'd say it's just about worth the upgrade. As bad as the contrast boosting is, just about every other aspect of the image leaves the mediocre DVD transfers for dead. The big question is whether a new master would be struck for a future US release, I personally don't see it happening any time soon myself as Paramount/Gaumont didn't exactly push the boat out for their French release! Japan is always a future possiblity as well given the film's iconic stature over there, but even if they did strike a new master they'd price the BD waaay out of your comfort zone (and mine)! :D

Also remember all the Sony "DVD" transfers (so USA DVDs) have had transfers people have hated. There's nothing to suggest Sony will suddenly get it right.

Thanks Shing.

Will get it when it's under a tenner.

I believe my Korean 2-Disc Set has the best A/V of all the DVDs.

They're all roughly the same AFAIK, in that all have problems.

IIRC on the Korean wasn't the Theatrical Cut transfer actually a little better than the Version Longue? I seem to recall that the extended cut was a port of one of the US releases.

I never compared the two versions myself.

But there have been online comparisons.

Nice! You have it? Can you buy it outside of the box set? What's the AV like? It's the Theatrical Cut right? Thanks.

No..don't think so.

Heavy grain but true to the how it looked in theatres i imagine,no sign of dnr here.it's an avc transfer with a high average bitrate.
bradavon wrote:It's the Theatrical Cut right? Thanks.
haven't watched it yet and there's no indication on the packaging but it's 2 hours and as mgm released the theatrical cut on dvd i believe it is.

I'd be surprised if it isn't. The USA and Japanese MGM DVDs are both the Original Theatrical Cut, whereas Anchor Bay and Momentum gave us the Work print. It's an easy one to confirm though. It's better than the DVD right? I expect grain, Manhunter has never looked great.

How much did you pay? Annoyingly I don't want Hannibal though.
