Thinking of buying a new surround sound system/maybe new TV
Hey,
I'm seriously thinking about upgrading my speakers so I can take advantage of the better sound on BDs - problem is all the speaker systems I've looked at seem to come with a free BD player that I dont need
Also looking at a bigger TV - maybe 42-47" but not sure exactly. I cant find a 2013 Panasonic model (thought I'd go with Panasonic as thats what my current set is) thats 47". 50" may be too big for my room

I would buy from John Lewis or Richer Sounds.
Can't help you on current stuff. I'm sure you can buy a great system for half the cost of a few years back. What hifi is a good mag just to see what's out in UK retailers. From memory Yamaha do some interesting complete system packages

Grim, how much are you wanting to spend on a TV? Because I bought a Panasonic TX-42ST50 last month and that's the best one to go for value for money-wise if you can stretch that far, offering almost comparable quality to their flagship model when calibrated. The 2013 model is basically the same, but more expensive.

Maybe about £500-600 though was thinking of going for this one (if it will fit in my room):

Expensive I know
Was looking at a 42" myself at first but then I thought why not go one bigger
Its a lot of money but I have to spend some of my savings otherwise my benefits etc will be reduced/stopped apparently. The total money I have cant go above a certain level.

Panasonic plasmas are better than their LEDs unless you'll mainly be watching it in a bright room.grim_tales wrote:Maybe about £500-600 though was thinking of going for this one (if it will fit in my room):

Then plasma is the way to go, superb blacks (the LED blacks are dark purple) - refer to HDTVtest.co.uk for the experts' opinions.grim_tales wrote:I mainly like to watch movies in the dark.

It's confusing. Some sites saying Plasmas are better, some say LED's are better. Both have advantages and disadvantages I guess.
